I’m Marjorie Armstrong, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of WholeMind Psychiatry. I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric care for adolescents, adults, and older adults through secure telehealth. My practice is centered on understanding the whole person, not just a diagnosis. I consider your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, stressors, strengths, and personal goals when developing a treatment plan. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative environment where you feel heard, informed, and actively involved in your care.

First session

Your first session is a chance for us to understand you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. We’ll talk about what brings you in, your current symptoms, medical and mental health history, sleep, stress, daily habits, relationships, and the goals you want to work toward. You’ll have space to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss what has or has not worked for you in the past. Together, we’ll review your treatment options and create an individualized plan that fits your needs and your life. If medication may be helpful, we’ll discuss the benefits, risks, alternatives, and what to expect in clear, understandable language. You’ll leave the session with a clear next step, practical recommendations, and a plan for follow-up so we can track your progress and make adjustments along the way. At WholeMind Psychiatry, you’re not a diagnosis; you’re a whole person. Our goal is for you to feel heard, informed, supported, and confident about the path forward.

Strengths

I bring a calm, compassionate, and collaborative approach to every session. I take time to listen carefully and understand the whole person, including your symptoms, medical history, daily life, stressors, strengths, and goals. My approach stands out because treatment is never one-size-fits-all. I combine evidence-based psychiatric care with practical guidance and thoughtful medication management when appropriate, while making sure you understand your options and feel involved in every decision. My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely heard, respected, and comfortable asking questions. Together, we build a clear and realistic treatment plan that fits your life and supports meaningful, lasting progress.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is an adult between the ages of 18 and 65 who is seeking thoughtful, individualized psychiatric medication management and wants to take an active role in their mental health care. I work with people navigating concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, trauma-related symptoms, sleep difficulties, stress, and major life transitions. Clients may be balancing college, careers, relationships, parenting, caregiving, or other life demands while trying to feel more stable, focused, and like themselves again. My goal is to support individuals who want a collaborative, evidence-based approach, clear communication about their treatment options, and a care plan that fits their goals, values, and everyday life.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles to help clients recognize how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors can influence one another. During visits, I may incorporate practical CBT-based strategies to help identify unhelpful thinking patterns, improve coping skills, manage stress, and support healthier daily habits. These techniques can complement psychiatric medication management by giving clients tools they can use between appointments. My approach is collaborative and focused on helping each person better understand their patterns, build confidence, and make realistic changes that support their treatment goals.

Supportive

I use supportive therapy to create a safe, respectful space where clients can talk openly about what they are experiencing and feel genuinely heard. During visits, I provide encouragement, validation, practical guidance, and help with problem-solving while supporting each client’s strengths and ability to cope with stressors. This approach can be especially helpful during life transitions, relationship challenges, work or family stress, and periods of emotional difficulty. I often combine supportive techniques with psychiatric medication management to help clients feel more stable, understood, and confident as they work toward their treatment goals.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their goals, concerns, and readiness for change in a supportive, nonjudgmental way. During medication management visits, I may use this approach to better understand a client’s priorities, address hesitation about treatment, and support healthy changes related to sleep, stress, routines, substance use, or medication adherence. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I work collaboratively to strengthen their own motivation and confidence so treatment decisions feel realistic, meaningful, and aligned with their personal goals.
