Hello! I am Vanessa Martinez, a licensed professional counselor in Cortez, Colorado. I have been a therapist for 4 years. I graduated in 2022 with my master's degree from Capella University. My primary work has been in community mental health, which means I am confident and capable of handling various situations with care and compassion. I would love to work with you if you are a new mother, a seasoned mom, or just needing some additional support through parenting. Let me know how I can be of service to you!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

When we meet for the first time, there will be many questions and answers, however, I try to make you feel as comfortable as possible. If you have questions for me, please feel free to ask them! I want you to understand and be informed of how we will proceed in further sessions and be prepared for our other visits.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I love to integrate various techniques that are tailored to what you need in every session and however you learn. If you like worksheets- awesome! I've got lots of them. If you prefer to talk and process, that's great too. I am flexible in help you reach your goals in whatever way you feel works best for your learning styles and that will create lasting change for your mental health. I have worked with various women throughout their pregnancy and postpartum women who have told me they feel comfortable with me quickly, they feel they can trust me easily and that they see results within the first two-three sessions. That doesn't mean they stop with me! We usually continue to go forward and continue to process and learn more skills so you can be healthy and energized to take care of your little ones how you feel you can do that best! I look forward to meeting with you!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I primarily serve women who are pregnant or in the postpartum period that are experiencing anxiety, depression, or any other mood/mental health concerns while in this very important phase of life. This doesn't have to be your first child- it can be your first or your fifth! If you're seeking support and want specialized therapy for this period in your life, I'm here for you!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT throughout our sessions together to help you navigate how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact together. Skills learned in sessions will help you navigate in a better, more effective manner throughout your life and relationships.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT works very well with other modalities and I integrate it into sessions to help manage emotions, recognize one's own values and how to live out those values skillfully.
