Patrice Alexander
I believe therapy is most effective when it’s collaborative and personalized. With over 25 years of experience, my work is rooted in a trauma-informed framework, ensuring that you feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process. I tailor my approach to your unique needs, drawing from ACT to build resilience, CBT to shift unhelpful thought patterns, and EFT to strengthen emotional connection in couples. My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where meaningful change can take place. Together, we’ll explore what feels most helpful for you and create a path toward healing and growth.
First session
In the first session, I hope to accomplish managing expectations for therapy, building a therapeutic rapport, and identifying your goals for therapy. In our first session, you can expect to get to know me as a therapist and how I work with clients, so we can determine if my style of therapy is going to help you meet your goals.
Strengths
As the oldest child, I was the "go-to person" in my family and often had to be the mediator, helping to resolve family conflicts. I developed the skill of effective listening, and I possess the ability to help people identify and articulate their inner experiences. I have had to navigate life transitions, trauma, grief/loss in my own life, and I decided to make a career out of helping others do the same.
Ideal clients
I work best with people who are feeling anxious, stuck, uncertain, or in pain due to adjustment difficulties, relationship issues, family conflict, substance use, and unresolved trauma or grief. I am passionate about helping people, and I am privileged to witness the healing power of transformation.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on helping you clarify your values and take meaningful steps toward the life you want, even when challenges arise. ACT encourages mindfulness and acceptance, allowing you to develop greater psychological flexibility and resilience.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns that affect your mood and behaviors. CBT offers practical tools and strategies you can use in your everyday life to better manage stress, anxiety, or depression.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
For couples, I often draw on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a powerful approach that helps partners strengthen their emotional connection, improve communication, and break free from cycles of conflict. EFT creates a safe environment where both partners can express their needs and deepen their bond.
Trauma-Informed Care
I approach all of my work through a trauma-informed lens. This means I prioritize your sense of safety, respect your pace, and recognize the impact of past experiences on your present challenges. My goal is to create a supportive and compassionate space where you can process difficulties, heal, and move forward with greater confidence and hope.
