New to Grow
Hello, and congratulations on taking the important step toward improving your life and overall well-being. My name is Jacqueline Harvey, and I am honored to walk alongside you as you begin your journey toward healing, growth, and positive change. As a counselor with over 20 years of experience, I have worked with individuals facing a wide range of life challenges and emotional concerns including addiction, grief and loss, codependency, communication issues, anxiety, depression, transitional life changes, ADHD, dementia, caregiver stress, etc. I hold a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a License in Clinical Social Work in the State of IL. I believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every human being and I feel that individuals already possess the strength, insight, and answers they need within themselves. My role is to help empower and equip you with the support, and guidance necessary to dig deep within and find the tools to create meaningful life change.
During our initial therapy session, my goal is to create a safe and welcoming space where you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, feelings, and the experiences that brought you to therapy. Together, we will gather information, identify your concerns, and begin developing a plan tailored to your needs and goals. This session also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about therapy or my approach to treatment. We will conclude by discussing next steps and scheduling future sessions to ensure continuity, support, and progress throughout your therapeutic journey.
I use an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from a variety of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and other therapeutic approaches tailored to meet your individual needs. I provide warm empathic listening, reflective and supportive feedback, so that you know your needs are heard, valued, and important. I focus on validating my clients concerns, challenges, and obstacles to current life situations while helping them explore their strengths, their feelings, and devising solutions and/or coping mechanisms for what they are facing.
My ideal client is someone who is motivated and open to exploring their values, needs, goals and personal growth in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. This individual would be willing to reach out to their support system, and be able to step out of their comfort zone to reach their goals or improve their life in a positive way. I also enjoy working with clients who have a higher power such as Christian clients who like to look toward scripture and Christ's unconditional love and positive regard for support and assurance..
Other specialties
I identify as
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
To combat anxiety, work toward acceptance of self, for goal attainment and emotional regulation.
Christian Counseling
To build client's self worth, and confidence, as everyone is beautifully and wonderfully made and unique (made in the image of God). Also, to encourage clients to use their spirituality as a support when they start believing lies about themselves such as they are worthless or have no purpose.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
To replace unhealthy thoughts with healthy ones, or replace an unhealthy behavior or action with a healthier one for clients.
Grief Therapy
To provide empathy, and normalize the grief experience which can sometimes feel overwhelming. To encourage the expression of an array of feelings without judgement. Also, so that the client does not feel alone; to companion them as they walk through their grief.
