New to Grow
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and I have been practicing in the field for 10+ years. I received my Master of Counseling Psychology degree from Louisiana State University where I began my work in the mental health field. I have worked with tweens, teens, young adults, and adults struggling with many different mental health needs that have affected their ability to feel in control of their own world. I have focused my training and specialization on individual that have experienced trauma resulting in depression, anxiety, substance use and struggles with overall coping and being able to thrive. My passion is working with populations that are forced into trauma due to their economic status, zip code, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, etc. I work alongside clients to build a trust-based relationship in which the client is able to begin to feel safe and heard. My main treatment modalities are CBT, DBT, ACT, TBRI and trauma-informed care. People often come into my office when things feel the most out of control in their life and I hope to help them find a way to feel they are in control again.
In our first session I like to gather information such as history and current stressors. I will discuss goals of treatment and what you hope changes by the time treatment ends. Then we will focus on what is causing the most distress at this time and where we will start to navigate that together.
As a child I grew up in the foster care system. My parents struggled with mental illness and coped with substances. I have no judgement and only love for them as I can see them as a whole not just a sum of their struggles. I know how it feels to struggle myself and work to overcome something that feels insurmountable. My strength is standing along side you not to lead you but to walk with you as we figure all of this out together no matter how long or short that takes.
