Hello my name is Tommy and thanks for taking a minute to look through my profile. Professionally I have working with people who are challenge by mental health and substance abuse obstacles for more than 22 years. I believe most people have an understanding or idea of what their best life might look like and are looking for a competent partner to offer them guidance..that is my style in a nutshell. I believe firmly in a client center and positive psychology approach. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Addictions Professional.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

It is important for my clients to recognize that there can be some risk involved with the counseling process. Sometimes people experience an increase in stress, with things seeming to get worse before they get better. This is not unusual or abnormal. Other worrisome things may surface, depending on your particular situation. I expect people to leave sessions knowing we are partners in these times of stress and to feel free to ask questions and to openly share if concerns surface. I will bring to your attention for discussion concerns/risks should I observe any.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As I mentioned before I am a proponent of positive psychology. And what I mean by that is my intent will never be to demean or employ punitive or degrading methods to intervene on the challenges of client's. My technique, if you could call it that, is to utilize the strengths of my client's in order to assist them in discovering the solutions to the challenges we face together.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I use this method of treatment to help clients navigate through the difficulties they may face in their day to day life journeys. In this particular technique the client and their memory lead the process and I facilitate the experience. Less directive than normal talk therapy.
