Christina Boland
I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist who believes therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff or overly clinical. My style is informal, conversational, and collaborative, creating a space where you can show up as yourself without worrying about saying the “right” thing. I have no expectations for you to present yourself in a certain way, change anything about yourself, or hide anything. Each thing that you share will only help our work together, and guide me to the best understanding of you and your needs, so that we can navigate your challenges as a team, and take all factors into consideration. My goal for my sessions is to create an environment where the people that I meet with understand that they will never be met with judgement, unreasonable expectations, or negativity. Together, we can create a map of what you’re going through, identify and build on your strengths, and find practical ways to grow toward the life you want.
First session
In your first session with me, I will spend time explaining the therapy process and gaining an understanding of your needs. It is very important to me to have an understanding of any questions and reservations that you may have before and throughout the process, so that we can address these effectively and get you the treatment that you need. I am a very understanding and accommodating person, and so, if you bring something to my attention that will serve to help you better, I am going to hear you out and do what I can to put this into practice.
Strengths
I believe that my life has been full of enriching experiences - some good, some bad. Through all of these experiences, I have taken time to reflect on what I can learn from them and how to make things better for myself and others through these lessons. I deeply value getting the chance to know people on the level as a therapist, because, when you really commit to the process, it is so raw and genuine. One of the biggest things that I have learned in my lifetime is that people are so good. Each of us is a sum of our experiences, and helping people to identify these and make sense of them is such a rewarding process. It can be so easy to let the things that happen to us define us, but my goal is to challenge my clients to change this thought into letting our experiences guide us to be the people that we wish to be. It is also important to me for my clients to know that I understand that I do not know everything. You are the expert of your own experience, and I would never do anything to challenge that. I am excited to learn from my clients, and, if ever there is something that neither of us know the answer to, we can find it together.
Ideal clients
Through my experience as a therapist, I have been very fortunate to have the chance to work with clients through many different walks of life, and across various ages and stages of development. My ideal client is someone who understands that therapy is difficult and important work, and is willing to show up for themselves and do what they need to do in order to live the life that they want. I am always excited to meet with new populations of people, and learn more about you, your experiences, and your needs.
Treatment methods
Person-centered (Rogerian)
All of my practice comes back to allowing my clients to be the experts of their own experiences. I utilize many different approaches, but my most comfortable is allowing clients to set the pace for their healing, and being a positive support along the way.
