Hi! I'm Angelica. If you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and unsure about the future, let's talk. I help women and men learn how to be comfortable in their own skin so that anxiety does not dictate their success. Together, we can begin to identify the causes of your anxiety and work on overcoming them. If you are dealing with relationship issues, work issues, major life changes or feelings that nothing will ever change or improve, I'd like to help you to start feeling better. While meeting with me, you will have a non judgmental space to talk about what you are thinking and feeling. I approach the therapy process with empathy, cognitive behavioral techniques and solutions. I look forward to getting to know you!
Our first session together is my opportunity to get to know you better. I like to find out what brought you to therapy and learn about any events that have shaped how you think and feel. In the first session, we will complete an intake, discuss therapy goals and review confidentiality considerations.
As part of the counseling process, it is really important to me that clients are 100% involved in creating goals for therapy. After meeting with a client for their initial intake session, I always ask, “What do you hope to get out of counseling?” This question is the first step to determining therapy goals. It helps me and the client begin the discussion about changes they would like to make during the therapy process to get to a happier, more fulfilling life. Sometimes individuals have a difficult time answering this question. My role is to help them figure this out through open, supportive counseling. I work with each person to prioritize their therapy goals and develop a plan to accomplish these goals.
I enjoy working with all populations. Many of my clients are people of color, ranging from adolescents to seniors. Most of my clients are in a transition period of their life in their careers and/or personal lives. I meet with many new parents, recent graduates and individuals who are struggling with their careers or current stage of life. Most of my clients are having difficulty managing feelings of anxiety and depression because of the transitions they are facing.
Our thoughts become the reality of how we view ourselves and the world around us. I use CBT as one of many treatment methods to help my clients better understand how their thoughts and self-talk impact their behaviors, feelings and interactions with others. Recognizing and changing negative thought patterns can help lessen symptoms of anxiety and depression, to live a more stress free life.
