(she/her)
I’m Peyton Shelton, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Kentucky, dedicated to helping clients navigate life’s challenges with compassion and clarity. With a Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and over three years of clinical experience, I create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore concerns, build resilience, and achieve lasting change. Using evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I tailor our work to address issues such as anxiety, stress, family dynamics, and personal growth, collaborating with you to find solutions that fit your unique needs. My goal is to empower you to overcome obstacles and thrive. Whether you’re ready to start therapy or have questions, I’m here to support you, let’s begin your journey together!
In the first session we will start off with brief introductions, and move on to discussing your "why". Why are you here, what made you take this brave step to attend therapy? After discussing your why we will work together to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs and wants.
My greatest strengths as a therapist lie in my exceptional listening skills and my ability to foster a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for every client. I understand that sometimes the most powerful support comes from providing a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to share and process emotions. By tailoring each session to your unique needs and drawing on evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I empower you to explore challenges, gain insight, and achieve meaningful growth. My goal is to ensure you feel heard, valued, and supported on your journey.
I’m best positioned to work with adults who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves and their lives. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, or a general sense of “something isn’t working” but aren’t sure how to change it. I especially enjoy working with individuals who are insightful and motivated for growth, even if they feel unsure where to start. My ideal clients are open to exploring patterns, building practical coping skills, and developing a deeper understanding of themselves in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. I often work with clients who struggle with people-pleasing, emotional burnout, overthinking, or difficulty setting boundaries, as well as those processing relationship stress or past experiences that continue to impact their present.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I enjoy using CBT as it can be used in conjuction with a lot of other therapies and modalities, or used by itself. Our experiences throughout life can affect how we see the world and how we interact or react to it. Sometimes those experiences have forced us to have unhealthy ways of thinking and responding. So, I use CBT to help you identify those unhealthy ways of thinking and responding, challenge and then reframe them into positive healthy ways.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
With mindfullness based therapy I help my clients learn to be present with themselves in the moment. We will work together to increase your awareness on the thoughts, feelings, and actions that might be hindering your progress in therapy as well as in life.
Strength-Based
With a strengths based approach I want to help my clients realize all the positive aspects that they bring to their unique life challenges. Rather than solely focusing on the "problem" I want to help my clients focus on their resilience, growth and positive attributes. We will work together to harness your unique skills to overcome your obstacles and achieve your goals. I want to help you build your self-confidence and guide you towards living a full-filled life!
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe that you (the client) should have control of the therapeutic process. I help my clients to take ownership of their mental-well being, and provide a safe space for us to work on self-awareness and for you to find your own solutions with my support.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
Sometimes we don't always have the time or the want to unpack our past, and that is where I come in with SFBT. Instead of focusing on the past and your problems we will use your current situation to create tangible solutions. We will focus on what is already working well for you, and how thing can be even better to open up room for solutions.
