New to Grow
I’m Lauren Alexander, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, clinical supervisor, counselor educator, and trauma-informed psychotherapist. I support adults who may look like they have it all together on the outside, yet feel overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, or exhausted from carrying so much. My work is especially centered on supporting high-achieving Black women, helping professionals, caregivers, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship stress, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the impact of childhood or intergenerational trauma. I offer a warm, reflective, and culturally responsive space where clients can slow down, understand their patterns, challenge old narratives, and begin reconnecting with themselves in a more grounded and compassionate way.
Our first session will be calm, conversational, and focused on getting to know you. You do not have to come in knowing exactly where to begin or having everything perfectly organized. We will talk about what brought you to therapy, what has been weighing on you, and what you hope will feel different in your life. I will ask questions about your current concerns, relationships, stressors, coping strategies, and important experiences that may be shaping how you move through the world now. Together, we will begin identifying goals for therapy so our work feels intentional, supportive, and connected to the changes you want to make.
I bring warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for the complexity of each person’s story. My approach stands out because I balance emotional safety with meaningful reflection. I want clients to feel supported, but I also gently invite them to examine the patterns, beliefs, and survival strategies that may no longer be serving them. My work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and integrative. Depending on your needs, I may draw from CBT, DBT-informed skills, attachment-based work, inner child reflection, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation.
My ideal client is the person who looks like they have it all together, but inside, they feel tired, anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves. They may be carrying the weight of multiple roles: professional, partner, parent, caregiver, daughter, friend, while wondering when they will finally have space for themselves. I am especially drawn to working with Black women, mothers, caregivers, helping professionals, and high-achieving adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, relationship stress, perfectionism, people-pleasing, identity shifts, and the lingering impact of childhood, family, or intergenerational trauma. My clients often come to therapy ready to understand their patterns, challenge old narratives, heal from the inside out, and reconnect with the parts of themselves that have been ignored, silenced, or overextended for too long.
Other specialties
I identify as
Attachment-based
I utilize attachment theory to better understand my clients behaviors and relational patterns
Trauma Informed Care
I see individuals through a trauma lens because I am aware that trauma impacts our brains and thinking
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Incorporating the both/and framework, I like to begin to give homework from DBT because it encompasses coping skills, mindfulness techniques, and relation-based tools to encourage clients to change behavior
