New to Grow
Hi! My name is Deborah Berkley. I have been privileged to provide counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults for the past thirty-four years. I love my work. I strive to create a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental setting for both my in-person and telehealth clients, so that they can reach their personal goals and dreams. I am a board-certified Licensed Professional Counselor, a Clinical Supervisor, and a certified Trauma Professional. I have spoken at an international conference on transpersonal psychology in Vancouver, British Columbia. I am the founder of The Madeline Centre, a group of dedicated counseling professionals who provide outpatient, substance-use, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization services. Animal-assisted therapy is available for in-person clients. My three Shih Tzus(Oliver, Gracie, and Bob-Bob) will be delighted to support you on your healing journey. Most importantly, I am a mother and grandmother.
Our first session will provide a gentle, non-threatening exploration of your personal history and the issues that bring you to counseling.
My philosophy of counseling is really rather simple: in the words of Shel Silverstein, "Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me...Anything can happen, child. Anything can be." With counseling support, I believe that anyone can start from any place, and with determination and hard work can forge a new path for his or her life.
My ideal client is anyone who is determined to develop the skills necessary to overcome his or her behavioral and/or mental health challenges. My many years in this field have provided me the training to work with children, adolescents, and adults. I have worked with a wide gamut of clients, from those with mild mental health issues to those with serious mental illnesses.
I assist the client to identify their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We point out negative or false thought patterns, and replace them with patterns that are healthy and life-enriching. I ask my clients to practice their new skills between sessions.
