Hello, I'm Yukako (she/her/hers), a fierce mental health advocate for migrants, refugees, and immigrants regardless of your immigration status. I am a psychotherapist with a passion for creating safe mental and emotional space for all including immigrants and refugees. As an immigrant myself, I understand the unique challenges you may face. I offer a safe space for you to share your story, and together, we'll create a personalized treatment plan to help you thrive and live your life with a sense of ownership and autonomy. I am japanese and spent more than half of my life in other regions of the world. I truly believe that healing can start where empathy meets human connections. We cannot change the systems and policies so quickly, but we can change ourselves. I want to help people take back the ownership of life from the systems that failed us. We can be creative and we can reimagine the communities where wellbeing (mental/emotional/social/physical/spiritual) of people are centered around. If we want to see/be the change, we have to be brave and imaginative and believe that we can, and take action in solidarity. You are not alone. You dont need to face your trauma and walk alone a tunnel you might be stuck in. We can heal together.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Having lived in multiple countries, I bring a deep understanding of diverse cultures to my practice, enabling me to provide culturally competent care. My experience also enhances my trauma-informed approach, as I recognize the impact of cultural background on trauma responses. I offer a unique perspective and a safe space for healing and growth.
If you are not feeling your best but you dont quite know why, then Im here for you. Let's explore together why your are feeling the discomfort in your heart or cannot control your mind and behaviors. My speciality is to work with people who identify with immigrants regardless of their immigration status (asylees, refugees, SIV holders, parolees, etc). However, even if you don't identify as an immigrant, you are absolutely more than welcome! I am here for anybody who wants some support with navigating their life.
I specialize in culturally sensitive therapy, tailoring interventions to each individual's cultural background, values, and beliefs. This approach fosters a deeper understanding and respect for diverse perspectives, promoting healing and growth.
Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I help clients accept their thoughts and feelings, commit to meaningful actions aligned with their values, and develop psychological flexibility for a more fulfilling life.
I provide trauma-informed care, recognizing the widespread impact of trauma. I prioritize safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment in my approach, supporting clients in their healing journey.
In my therapy practice, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. By challenging and reframing these patterns, clients can develop healthier coping strategies and achieve their therapy goals.
