Hi! My name is Julia Wald and I'm a licensed and insured Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist. I earned an MSW from Simmons college, and I have over ten years of experience providing therapy for adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I value honesty and humor, and I believe that a big part of therapy is about learning and growing together. My approach is all about partnering with you to explore your strengths and uncover your potential, so you can start living a life you truly love and deserve.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

You set the pace and your comfort level is priority. We'll get to know one another better and build rapport. I'll gather some background information about your reasons for seeking therapy now, your history of therapy, if any, some basic information on your past, and anything else you think is relevant to inform our work together. We'll talk about your vision for your ideal future and goals you want to set for yourself for therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I bring a unique sense of calm, which affords clients comfort in opening up, and they often leave sessions with a feeling of peace. Another strength is helping people find their own hidden strengths. Over the years, I've become skilled at helping clients identify their strengths to set realistic goals, and create actionable plans that lead to observable progress and behavior change.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I’ve spent a lot of time helping people work through challenges like depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, addictions, ADHD, relationship issues, and parenting.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use this method to uncover distortions. Distortions are biased ways of thinking that cause us to see the world in ways that are not totally accurate. Distortions can lead to negative emotions and distress, so we work to identify those and peel them away by challenging and reframing them. Sometimes our minds get stuck in an open loop of negative thinking that can feel impossible to escape. By challenging negative thoughts, you can break free of the loop and gradually shift your mindset to a more healthy one.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Sometimes we have overwhelming emotions that get in the way of our enjoyment of daily life. Whether you're plagued by panic attacks or depression, or just trying to get through the ups and downs of each day, DBT can help you regulate your emotions by setting small goals, accumulating positive emotions, enhancing self-care, and integrating grounding and cool-down techniques. Sometimes strong emotions even cause us to make decisions we later regret because emotion overpowers our logical thinking. I use DBT to teach emotional regulation so that you can find better control and balance and feel confident to manage powerful feelings.
