New to Grow
Hi! I’m Jen and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Virginia and owner of Sampaguita Psychotherapy, PLLC. I have over 20 years of experience working with various populations and in several different areas including inpatient mental health, family services, hospice and managed care. I currently work with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, including generational and cultural trauma, and grief & loss.
It's important to me that my clients feel comfortable in speaking honestly and openly with me. I aim to establish a healthy and therapeutic relationship with my clients to assist and empower them in reaching their treatment goals.
I bring a nonjudgmental, empathetic presence, holding space when you need it and offering compassionate challenge when growth calls for it. I give clients room to express themselves fully while gently guiding progress. I have cultural insight into Asian family dynamics and the tensions of honoring tradition while forging your own path, and as a cancer survivor I offer firsthand understanding of the complex emotional and practical realities of diagnosis and survivorship.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that fuel worry, low mood, or stress. CBT is structured, short-term, and evidence-based, and I tailor techniques to your needs so you can see practical progress.
Motivational Interviewing
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore and resolve mixed feelings about change in a supportive, nonjudgmental way. In sessions we collaborate to uncover your own reasons for change, strengthen motivation, and set realistic, client-driven goals while respecting your autonomy. MI is practical, empathetic, and often combined with other approaches to help you move from thinking about change to taking action.
Eclectic
Different forms of treatment methods (i.e. CBT, motivational interviewing, etc) are used based on what the your needs are.
