Emma Servera
Hello, my name is Emma, and I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Trauma Studies from Pacific Oaks College. I am EMDR trained and am currently working toward training in ERP to support the treatment of OCD and other anxiety-related disorders. My approach is collaborative, practical, and tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals while helping them build insight, coping skills, and lasting change.
First session
In our first session, you can expect a welcoming and supportive space where we will begin getting to know one another and discussing what brings you to therapy. We will explore your current concerns, personal history, goals for treatment, and any questions or concerns you may have about the therapy process. My approach is collaborative and paced according to your comfort level, with the goal of establishing a strong therapeutic relationship where trust is a key part of the healing process. The first session is also an opportunity for you to determine whether we feel like a good fit working together while creating a plan that feels supportive and manageable.
Strengths
I take a collaborative, client-centered approach and work to create a space where clients feel comfortable, supported, and understood. My style is warm, direct, and grounded in evidence-based practices tailored to each individual’s needs and goals. I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, OCD, and relationship challenges, and I integrate approaches such as EMDR, trauma-informed care, and behavioral interventions into my work. I also value helping clients build practical coping skills, strengthen self-awareness, and create healthier patterns in their daily lives.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who feels stuck in patterns of anxiety, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, or persistent self-doubt and is ready to better understand what is driving those experiences. Many of the clients I work with are navigating trauma, OCD-related symptoms, or relationship distress, and are looking for a way to feel more grounded and connected to themselves. I am especially well-positioned to serve individuals with a history of trauma who notice that past experiences continue to show up in current relationships, emotions, and self-perception. This may include feeling easily triggered, struggling with trust or safety, experiencing intrusive thoughts, or feeling disconnected from a stable sense of self. My ideal client has a genuine motivation for change, even if they feel unsure of how to get there. They may feel overwhelmed or stuck, but there is a willingness to reflect, engage in the process, and begin shifting long-standing patterns that no longer serve them. I work best with clients who are open to a collaborative approach that includes both practical, skills-based tools and deeper trauma-focused work when appropriate. This can involve building coping strategies for anxiety and intrusive thoughts, strengthening emotional regulation, and increasing insight into patterns, while also gently processing underlying experiences that continue to impact daily life. Clients who tend to benefit most from my work are those who want to feel more grounded, less controlled by anxiety or trauma responses, and more able to respond to life with clarity, flexibility, and a stronger sense of internal stability.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as an evidence-based approach to help clients process a range of distressing experiences that continue to impact current emotions, beliefs, and behaviors—not only trauma, but also anxiety, negative self-beliefs, and other emotionally charged life experiences. My approach begins with preparation and stabilization, ensuring clients have coping skills and feel grounded before processing. We then identify target memories, triggers, or patterns connected to current symptoms such as anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or emotional reactivity. Using bilateral stimulation, clients reprocess these experiences so they become less distressing and more adaptive perspectives can emerge. I work in a paced, collaborative, and trauma-informed way, prioritizing safety throughout and supporting clients in integrating gains into daily life for lasting change.
