Hello, I'm Brenda. I graduated from Bellevue University with a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor. My passion lies in providing mental health therapy for adults, and I bring a wealth of experience working with families and individuals across various settings, from acute care to partial hospitalization programs. Additionally, I have had the privilege of working with active duty servicemembers and their families, which has deepened my understanding and respect for the unique challenges they face. My approach to therapy is highly individualized. I believe that each person is unique, and therefore, I tailor my counseling services to meet the specific needs of each client. I utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities to help clients navigate through challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relational conflicts, self-development, and major life changes. My experience working with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia, ADHD, Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and PTSD in a hospital setting has equipped me with the tools necessary to assist those in need of specialized care. Having been born in Asia, raised in Australia, and now living in America, I have a deep appreciation for multicultural and diversity issues. My life experiences have given me a unique perspective and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel heard and understood. When I'm not working, I enjoy immersing myself in a good book, listening to thought-provoking podcasts, taking peaceful nature walks, and watching documentaries. These activities help me recharge and stay grounded. If you're looking for a compassionate and experienced therapist to support you through life's challenges, I would be honored to work with you. Let's embark on this journey together towards healing and growth.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored treatment plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of the best compliments I often hear from my clients and family and friends is my ability to actively listen and attend to the needs of others. In addition, I have a diverse background having lived in four different countries and being an active-duty (military) spouse of 17 years and counting. My perspective on life may differ from other therapists due to the varying experiences and exposures to different cultures and environments.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Adults who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, past trauma, major life changes and relationship issues are best suited for my practice. I also have extensive experience in military communities, veterans and their families, and I am familiar with the unique challenges they face. In addition, faith-based clients often benefit from my gentle approach integrating their belief systems with their treatment.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a treatment method is grounded in its practical and results-oriented approach. I have seen its effectiveness firsthand in helping individuals identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. I utilize CBT to address a wide range of issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, stress, trauma and relationship challenges.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

My experience with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) has shown me the value of focusing on client's strengths, resources and future possibilities rather than dwelling on problems. It has been effective in helping clients achieve quick, meaningful progress by identifying their goals and working collaboratively to build actionable solutions.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that focuses on identifying and changing irrational beliefs that lead to emotional distress and unhealthy behaviors. My experience with REBT has shown me how impactful it can be in helping clients challenge these beliefs and develop more rational, balanced ways of thinking. I help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions and behaviors through the ABC model (Activating event; Beliefs of the event; Consequences of the event). From there we work together to identify the Dispute (D - irrational beliefs) and replace them with Effective (E) rational beliefs that promote emotional well-being and constructive and achievable actions.

Faith based therapy

Faith-based therapy integrates psychological principles with spiritual or religious beliefs to provide a holistic approach to healing and personal growth. My experience with this method has shown me how deeply meaningful it can be for clients who wish to explore their faith as a source of strength, guidance and resilience in the therapeutic journey.
