New to Grow
I'm Lourdes Dorvilus, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Florida with over 10 years of experience working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and the weight of carrying too much for too long. I work with adults who are high-functioning on the outside but struggling on the inside people who show up for everyone else and rarely give themselves the same grace. My approach is warm, direct, and grounded in both clinical evidence and faith. I am bilingual in English and Haitian Creole.
Our first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. I want to understand what brought you here, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping feels different. You don't have to have it all figured out before we meet. I will ask questions, listen carefully, and by the end we will have a shared sense of where we're starting and where we're heading together.
I push back with compassion. I am not a therapist who will nod and validate everything I will gently challenge you when I see you getting in your own way, because I believe that is what real support looks like. I bring 10 years of experience working with diverse populations, a background in education and leadership, and lived experience as a Black woman and woman of faith navigating complex systems. I understand cultural pressure, family obligation, and the exhaustion of always being the strong one.
My ideal clients are adults who are ready to do real work but need a safe, structured space to start. I work well with people navigating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and work-related stress ; especially Black women, first-generation professionals, and people of faith who want a therapist who understands the weight of carrying a lot while still showing up for everyone else. I meet clients where they are without judgment.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients identify the thought patterns keeping them stuck and replace them with more accurate, workable ways of seeing themselves and their situations. Sessions are collaborative and practical ; we work on real things happening in your life, not just theory.
Christian Counseling
For clients who want their faith woven into the therapeutic process, I integrate Christian principles alongside evidence-based approaches. Your beliefs are not separate from your healing they are part of it. We use scripture, prayer, and spiritual reflection as tools alongside clinical work.
EMDR
EMDR helps the brain reprocess painful memories that are still showing up in your daily life as anxiety, triggers, or emotional reactions that feel out of proportion. It is structured but gentle, and many clients experience significant relief without having to talk through every detail of what happened.
Motivational Interviewing
I use MI when clients feel stuck, ambivalent, or unsure whether change is even possible. Rather than pushing, I help you explore your own reasons for change and build confidence in your ability to move forward. It meets you exactly where you are.
