New to Grow
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC in Florida), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC in Colorado), Certified Hypnotherapist (NBCCH), Master's Level Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP) and a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). I have a B.A. in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook and a M.S.Ed, Major in Counseling with distinction from Hofstra University, NY. I have also taken updated counseling courses at FAU. I tend to break through surface level issues and get to the core issues a person has in order to promote change and well being in the individual. People tend to open up to me due to my empathy and understanding of trauma, and its effects on their behaviors.
During the initial session, clients can expect an introduction and review of informed consent, confidentiality, and client rights. Time is spent building rapport and creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients can begin discussing the concerns that brought them to counseling. The first session also includes a comprehensive assessment to gather information regarding the client's presenting problems, mental health history, current symptoms, functioning, strengths, and treatment goals. This assessment helps identify the primary issues contributing to distress and guides the development of an individualized treatment plan. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often utilized early in treatment to help clients identify and examine intrusive, maladaptive, or distressing thoughts that contribute to emotional discomfort and problematic behaviors. The goal is to increase awareness of these thought patterns and begin developing healthier, more balanced ways of responding to them. At the conclusion of the session, clients are typically provided with homework or between-session exercises designed to reinforce concepts discussed in therapy, increase self-awareness, and support progress toward treatment goals. Homework assignments are reviewed and discussed during subsequent sessions as part of the ongoing therapeutic process.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my commitment to helping clients understand what they are experiencing. I have found that many individuals struggle not only with symptoms such as depression, anxiety, addiction, or relationship difficulties, but also with a lack of understanding about why these issues occur and what maintains them. Education is a major component of my therapeutic approach, and I believe that knowledge empowers clients to make meaningful and lasting changes. I take a hands-on approach to therapy and often provide practical tools, exercises, and homework assignments that reinforce the work completed during sessions. Therapy is not limited to the hour we spend together; growth occurs between sessions as clients apply new skills and insights to their daily lives. My style is direct, engaging, and focused on meaningful change. While I strive to create a supportive and welcoming environment, I also encourage clients to explore difficult topics, challenge long-standing patterns, and examine experiences they may have avoided or overlooked for years. I believe lasting progress often requires honest self-reflection and a willingness to look beneath the surface. Clients often describe me as relatable, friendly, and easy to talk to. I utilize real-world examples, professional experience, and appropriate personal learning experiences when they can help illustrate concepts and make therapeutic material easier to understand. My goal is to create an environment where clients feel both supported and challenged as they work toward healthier, more fulfilling lives.
I specialize in treating substance use disorders, gambling addiction, pornography addiction, and depression. My practice focuses on helping clients understand the root causes of their struggles, develop effective coping skills, and build healthier, more fulfilling lives. I am particularly passionate about working with individuals in recovery and those seeking relief from depressive symptoms. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with addictive behaviors, including substance use disorders, gambling addiction, and compulsive pornography use. My clinical experience and training have equipped me to effectively address the underlying emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns that contribute to addiction. I work from a supportive, evidence-based approach that helps clients develop insight, build coping skills, strengthen accountability, and maintain long-term recovery. In addition to addiction treatment, I work extensively with clients experiencing depression and related mood concerns. Many individuals facing addiction also struggle with feelings of hopelessness, low self-worth, grief, anxiety, or difficulty managing life's stressors. I help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful, sustainable changes that improve overall well-being.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), applying Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) involves helping clients identify the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, then teaching them skills to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and make behavioral changes that improve functioning.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I utilize mindfulness-based interventions to increase the client's awareness of thoughts, emotions, and physiological responses. I then guide the client through a focused breathing exercise and encouraged nonjudgmental observation of emotional experiences. Finally, I assist the client in identifying automatic reactions to stress and developing present-moment coping strategies to improve emotional regulation
