My name is Angela and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I believe in finding the strengths in everyone. I have a lot of life experience that I bring with me, so making a connection and building rapport is usually pretty easy. I have no judgment and I am open to all kinds of situations that people are experiencing. I use person centered, mindfulness, and goal oriented therapy. I want to help you, make your life the best life that it can be. I have experience working with all types of populations. I enjoy working with all types of people. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, gender identity, career issues, personality disorders, and even those at risk of thoughts of harm to self or others. I have worked with them all. My goal is to help you identify your strenghts and skills so that you can use them to improve the quality of your life. This is your journey and I am just here to help quide you on your journey to happiness.
In our first session we will do a lot of of question and answer time, this is when I will ask you all kinds of topics to help identify the goals that you would like to work on during our time together. This is also the time for you to share and be as open and honest as you can with me. This is important information and I want to make sure that I am doing my absolute best for you and with your help and openness that can be achieved. We will go over many subject area's and talk about my therapeutic style and your needs and make sure that both you and I feel this is a great match so that we can get started.
I feel I have a pretty easy time building rapport with most people. There are a couple of reasons for this. I feel I am very open and honest and that allows you to feel comfortable being open and honest. This helps build our therapeutic relationship so we can do the very best work together. I also feel that because of my many life experiences I can relate to most people. I have a blended family. We have four girls and one adopted son. We have one mixed race child, one child who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, and one child who only dates outside her race. We also have many religions and faiths in our family. I have been a survivor of sexual abuse, I have lost both my parents, have a close relative that I have had to place in detox treatment, and many other traumatic things that have happened in my life and I have found the positivity and creativity in life to give back to the community because of these situations. I also, had a family member commit suicide and actually brought this member back to life by accident and now that family member is alive and doing well. In the end, I believe we all have hope it is just not always easy to find it when life gets tough. We are all humans and sometimes we all need a little help.
I truly enjoy working with just about everyone, however the ideal client is one who really truly wants therapy and feels that they can have a better life with some help from another human. I find members who think differently very challenging and fun. I like to be mentally stimulated and sometimes when someone thinks very differently it is fun to work with them and figure out their mind and how it works.
I try to meet every person where they are at. This means that not every treatment style is the right type for every individual. So, we will talk and get to know each other and discuss treatment styles and approaches so that we can find what will work best for you. I do believe is goal driven and not just talk therapy with no actions, so do expect that we will do some good work together.
