Hello, my name is Yeniell Diaz, owner of Mind Over Matter Health PLLC, and I am glad you are here. I am a double-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP-BC) with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) and more than 10 years of clinical experience. I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating challenges in life like anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, and other mental health concerns. Whether you're exploring care for the first time or continuing your journey, my goal is to meet you where you are and provide respectful, thoughtful, and evidence-based support.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Welcome to your first session! During our initial visit, we’ll focus on understanding your unique story. I will work with you to begin developing a collaborative treatment plan, which may include medication, psychotherapy, or both, depending on your needs and preferences. This first session is about getting to know you, not rushing to a diagnosis or prescription. My approach is thoughtful, respectful, and paced at your level of comfort.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As a PMHNP, I’m trained to evaluate your conditions, provide diagnoses, and offer a range of treatments like psychotherapy, medication management, lifestyle tips, and collaboration if needed. I take a holistic and person-centered approach. I see you as more than a diagnosis and work with you to build a plan that fits your goals, preferences, and values. What sets my practice apart is a commitment to compassionate care and clear communication. I prioritize making clients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their mental health decisions.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work primarily with young adults, adults, and geriatric patients navigating complex trauma, anxiety, and mood disorders. I’m especially passionate about helping individuals who’ve struggled to find relief through traditional medication-only approaches. My practice is rooted in a holistic model that integrates psychotherapy with thoughtful medication management. With dual certification in psychiatry and geriatric care, I aim to provide compassionate, comprehensive support to patients and their families through the aging journey.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) because it is one of the most effective, practical, and research-supported treatments for a wide range of mental health conditions. CBT is one of the most extensively researched psychotherapies, with robust evidence supporting its effectiveness for conditions like anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and others. CBT follows a clear, structured format, making it easier to track progress. It helps people by recognizing and challenging negative thought patterns, developing healthier behaviors, and learning stress management, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. Moreover, CBT is time-efficient, adaptable to many settings, empowering, and collaborative.

Motivational Interviewing

The use of motivational interviewing (MI) is a highly effective, client-centered counseling approach designed to help people resolve ambivalence about change and strengthen their internal motivation. It is especially useful for individuals who are resistant, unsure, or not yet ready to change problematic behaviors. Many clients struggle with ambivalence (e.g., “I know smoking is bad, but I enjoy it”). MI helps them explore and resolve these mixed feelings without pressure or judgment. MI uses a collaborative, empathetic style that builds trust and respects the client’s autonomy. There is also proven evidence-based effectiveness in areas like substance use and addiction, smoking cessation, medication adherence, and diet and weight management, among others.

Psychodynamic

I use psychodynamic therapy in my practice because it helps individuals gain deep insight into the unconscious roots of their emotional struggles, patterns, and behaviors—often leading to long-lasting psychological change. It is particularly valuable for clients dealing with chronic, complex, or deeply rooted issues, such as unresolved trauma, personality disorders, relationship problems, or emotional regulation difficulties.
