Imagine you are driving a car on a highway, you are in the driver's seat, NOT passenger. You check rear view mirror (represents the past) when needed, however you are looking forward on a road (represents future). Despite that you are in the present which is the most important part. You are in control of your car with the help of rear view and side mirrors and controlling the speed.
