PMHNP, 25 years of experience
Hi there, I'm THERESA! I have been a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for six plus years and a Registered Nurse for twenty-five years. I worked in the correctional field for the past fourteen years; therefore, I am able to manage and treat most mental health issues. My patients are able to speak openly and freely about whatever is bothering them, and I will try my best to assist them with agreed-upon treatment. I do not have a specific patient type I work with at this time. I am able to manage all issues, whether the patient is a female or male.
In our first session/interview I will be asking an array of questions to get to know you better and enable to address the correct mental health diagnoses. I will also allow time for you to get to know me a little better, whereas; the provider/client relationship connection and trust is important for the treatment to be effective. Review past mental health treatment and medications attempted.

I like to use the Strengths-based therapy approach to psychotherapy treatment based in positive psychology. It focuses on a person's existing resources, resilience, and positive qualities, then uses these abilities to improve their quality of life and reduce problematic symptoms. This can be accomplished by helping the patient focus on their abilities rather than deficits. Positive thinking helps encourage patients to want to live in a more positive life and surround themselves with positive others.
I specialize in addiction, mood disorder (depression, bipolar, disruptive mood disorder, and premenstrual depressive disorder) anxiety, behavioral issues (anti-social personality disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder)and psychotic disorders(schizophrenia, If there is a language barrier, I have the resources to use an interpreter service. Some folks have everyday issues that I am able to help them sort through, while others have more in depth scenarios needing advanced treatment.
It is suggested that the focus of therapy should be on investigation of previously attempted solutions to a problem to identify what is maintaining it, constructing clear concrete goals to define the change to be achieved, and finally formulating and implementing a plan to achieve such change. they described their belief that effective change can be brought about by enacting change in the present, without a need to necessarily understand “why” or the cause of a problem. There is usually homework involved where as the client is able to complete on their schedule and bring to the next session for clarification and growth.
