Coco Guerrero

LMFT (she/her)5 years of experience

I am a people-lover. I'm a bit nerdy, a bit silly and full of compassion. My goal is to help you make your life better. I believe that the relationship we build will serve as a foundation for you to gain insight, make changes and have new experiences. I commit to listening to my clients, understanding their perspective, providing support and offering alternatives. I don't know everything, but I am good at holding onto hope even when things get dark.

First session

We start the journey by understanding what you want to change and what the context is for the problem. Then we identify skills and strengths you already have and consider what would be helpful to add to your toolbox.

Strengths

I believe in respecting choice and helping people recognize where they have choices, but this is balanced with the recognition that things happen to us that we don't have control over and when that happens, we have to figure out what to do with it. I take a very eclectic, and personalized approach, wholistic in mind, body, and spirit-dependent on what you need and what works best for you.

Ideal clients

I tend to do deep work and I love helping people with dysregulated nervous systems, difficulty expressing your emotions, low self-esteem, setting boundaries, feeling seen, heard or understood. I enjoy helping adults with ADHD and "High functioning" Autism, attachment issues, trauma and gifted individuals. I really enjoy helping people who are first-generation or multiracial find a sense of identity and belonging.

Treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to help develop the ability to respond to life in a flexible and adaptive manner to get unstuck and move forward in a healthy way. Understanding who you are and where you want to go is everything. No two people or stories are the same.

Attachment-based

Relationships are the foundation of our self-concept and sense of safety and belonging. These are fundamental needs that cause distress when they are not sufficient.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Different does not mean wrong and understanding your worldview is key to being able to relate to your experience. Even if we are not the same culture, I am commited to respecting you and open to learning new ways of expressing and understanding each other.
