Paul Amato
My name is Paul M. Amato. I am an LICSW with extensive experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and their families. Some of my specialties include trauma, depression, anger, all types of anxiety, self-esteem issues, self-abuse behaviors, relationships, marriage, and parenting. Every client is different, and the modalities or combinations should match each client. I believe this is your time, and we should collaborate to find what's best for you.
First session
The first session is to set expectations for you and what you expect of me. It is usually a "light" session.
Strengths
My lifetime experience has helped me in sessions. Even as a mechanical engineer working in the business world. Life is complex, with many variables. One solution does not fit all. So I take an eclectic approach, using many different modalities. Sometimes, a loving, safe environment and support are all it takes to help my clients speak their truth without judgment; other times, I give homework to work through their problems, and sometimes I give solutions if needed, all with love.
Ideal clients
The fact that you are looking for a therapist makes you the right client. Clients who succeed more quickly are open-minded and willing to make a change. There is no ideal client. We work together to address the issues you want to work on. A client's openness and honesty help steer the sessions in ways that are more helpful for you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
"Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is my base — it helps change the way you think, and this can happen in a variety of ways. I believe in an eclectic approach with multiple different modalities because each client and each concern is different, and what works best can change. I like to work with clients to figure out the best approach together, including pace and modality.
