Positive Psychology
When difficulties come our way in life, many will ask something like, "what do i do now? Where do I start? Positive psychology helps therapist and client start by considering and identifying good things, abilities, strengths already present. For example, if someone is experiencing grief for the first time, asking something like, "can you recall a really difficult time in your life? What did you learn through that experience?" Those "life lessons" can be a gold mine where existing resiliency can be used for the present challenges. So instead of starting with the problem, conflict, stress etc., I am always curious about what a person has already going well.
