My name is Debra Futterman, and I have been practicing for over 26 years. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) committed to helping individuals navigate life's challenges and discover their inner strength. My approach is rooted in empathy, compassion, and a deep respect for each person’s unique journey. I know what it is like to sit in the client's chair. I graduated with a degree in hospitality management and worked for a few years in sales, but I was looking for more depth in my work. I went to see a therapist who specialized in career counseling, and within a month, I was enrolled in a graduate program for social work. My experience spans working with children and adults in various settings, including community mental health, the judicial court system, private for-profit and corporate organizations specializing in crisis intervention and stabilization, and individual and family counseling.
The first therapy session includes several key elements and can feel different. It differs from regular therapy sessions because it consists of gathering information to establish the foundation of your therapeutic journey and determine what you wish to work on in treatment. Once introductions have been completed, there will be a discussion about confidentiality and several intake questions. Intake questions include learning about your background, reasons for seeking therapy, and your mental health history. We will explore what you want to achieve through therapy and discuss my therapeutic style and how I work with clients. You can also ask questions about the process and what to expect from future sessions. The first session can feel a mix of anxiety and relief. It’s a chance to share your thoughts in a safe space, but it can also be intimidating to open up about personal issues. Most importantly, it’s about building a relationship with your therapist, which can take time. Remember, feeling a bit vulnerable or unsure at first is completely normal!
I believe once you meet me, you will find that I am genuine and very easy to talk to. I provide a relaxed and comfortable environment with my warm, non-judgmental, and genuine conversational manner.
Whether you're seeking healing from trauma, facing anxiety or relationship issues, or simply seeking personal growth, my goal is to empower you to make meaningful changes in your life. Together, we will work towards understanding your experiences and developing strategies that resonate with you. I work with individuals who are dealing with anxiety, stress, and life challenges. I provide trauma resolution through the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Memory Reconsolidation in 3-6 sessions and combine it with other modalities to allow for long-term results. If you are only looking for trauma resolution and have a therapist you love, I can work with you to remove the symptoms from the trauma, and you can go back to your regular therapist.
I am trained and certified in Solution Focused Brief Treatment. It is an exceptional modality from a strengths perspective that helps empower clients to visualize themselves when the problem is no longer with them.
I am trained and certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, a modality that allows a client to reduce the emotional response from trauma in 3-5 sessions. I use this along with other modalities to sustain long-term results. ALSO I can perform ART for a client who wishes to stay with their regular therapist but quickly reduce the symptoms associated with the trauma.
I am trained and certified in Motivational Interviewing and I use it often along with other modalities once I meet with the client to determine the best options suited for them and their style.
