I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, insomnia, chronic pain and/or chronic illness. Other areas of focus that I can help you with include relationship issues, anger, stress-management, physical and learning disabilities including ADD/ADHD, life-stage issues and self-esteem. My professional career began as a certified American Sign Language Interpreter in 2001 and quickly progressed into earning a Graduate degree in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. My training provided the experience needed to work in a community mental health clinic providing high quality mental health care to residents in Austin, TX for 6 years. My interests in whole health led me to San Antonio to work with chronic illness, transplant, and geriatric care for roughly 10 years. Along this journey, I have had the opportunity to work with multinational clients seeking refugee services, worked as the Associate Director for Student Accessibility Services at a private university and currently involved in a fulfilling career as a counselor to veterans of our Armed Forces. Do you feel like you've lost your way, your purpose and identity, or just need to get back on track? Hello! My name is Erie, and I'd love to help you. Social workers typically have an interesting life story and personal experiences with tragedy that tug at our heartstrings. I am no different. At times, I wonder "how is it that I have survived these mountains and valleys?" Despite personal tragedy, loss, and despair, influential people have served as beacons of hope throughout the years in my life. Along with my re-creation of self through school, internships, and certifications, I have learned one basic human tenant that would be my guiding light through the most challenging of times: people need people. I realize that this sounds a bit rudimentary, but this is the cornerstone of social work and the secret to my success in beating the statistical odds that accompany a survivor of childhood abuse, drug addiction and alcoholism, military combat trauma, and the loss of a child. So, the question stands: why am I here and what do I want? I simply want to pay it forward as many have done for me. I would have never expected to be where I am or doing what I'm doing. I personally believe that there is hope and light in the most desperate, dark places and recesses of the human soul. For that reason, I bet on the underdog, society's undeserving, and those with whom all other plans have failed. I find that my reward and inner satisfaction comes with doing for others when all else has failed and all others have given up. For this reason, I will keep doing for others, because they are worth it.

"It's not the mountain that we conquer, but ourselves." - Sir Edmund Hillary As a mental health professional working with children, adolescents, and their families since 2021, an avid hiker for much longer, and a once at-risk teenager, I find that the quote above to reflects challenges we may face with mental health concerns. Sometimes in life, it can feel like you’re climbing uphill, breathing heavily, and hearing your heart thumping in your ears from the effort you’ve put in so far. The path ahead may look steep and winding, which can leave anyone’s internal compass spinning while navigating the path ahead. Like the different trails we can explore in the world, there are different challenges that we may encounter as individuals and families in life. For some, the mountain in their life may be adjusting to transitions in life, grief, or post-divorce, or the trail may challenge them to develop coping skills to manage the overwhelming feelings of anxiety, depression, or trauma. Other’s journeys may be shorter, needing to identify their strengths they can use to meet their challenges in life. On these varied trails, I have enjoyed walking alongside my clients and/or their families to while charting a path towards their goals in counseling. While my counseling approach is eclectic, drawing from strength-based, attachment theory, and solution-focused modalities, I rely on a foundation of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in my work with clients.

Bitini Pannell, a licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, exhibits a profound dedication to supporting individuals facing mental health challenges, including trauma, depression, anxiety, and stress. Her professional journey, extending over 10 years, has been marked by a deep commitment to providing compassionate and effective care to her clients. Following her academic pursuits, Bitini initiated her career in counseling at a community mental health center, crisis field response, criminal justice/prison systems and hospitals. This role involved delivering therapy to individuals presenting a wide array of mental health concerns, often working with the most underserved and acute populations, thereby enriching her expertise in the field. Bitini's specialization encompasses trauma therapy and somatic therapy, but her therapeutic repertoire extends beyond these. She skillfully integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into her practice. CBT, a widely recognized psychotherapeutic treatment, helps clients identify and challenge distorted cognitions and develop more balanced and constructive thinking patterns. DBT, on the other hand, is particularly effective in teaching skills for emotional regulation, mindfulness, and distress tolerance, especially beneficial for clients with intense emotional responses or those exhibiting self-destructive behaviors. Additionally, Bitini utilizes mindfulness and solution-focused therapy techniques. Mindfulness encourages clients to engage with the present moment in a non-judgmental manner, enhancing their awareness and acceptance of their thoughts and feelings. This approach is instrumental in managing stress and reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Solution-focused therapy, with its future-oriented and goal-directed framework, aids clients in identifying and harnessing their strengths and resources to constructively address their problems. Her holistic approach, incorporating both mind and body through somatic therapy, is particularly effective for clients who have endured diverse traumatic experiences. These include childhood trauma, neurodivergence, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Understanding that each client’s experience is unique, Bitini meticulously tailors her therapy to align with their individual experiences and needs.
