Hi everyone! I'm Antony Cantu (he/him/his), a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 6 years of experience across diverse settings, which includes 3 years of clinical (private practice, shelter) and 3 years in the educational setting. This unique blend allows me to specialize in areas like trauma, particularly intergenerational traumas and sexual identity challenges, while also addressing related issues like anxiety, depression, and family conflicts. Throughout my work with a wide range of clients, men and women alike, I've been struck by how truly individual we all are. Your unique experiences and perspectives are what make you special. By identifying what you want to achieve, we can work together to develop a personalized path towards a more mindful, embodied, and fulfilling life. As a Latino/Latinx and LGBTQ+ member myself, I offer a culturally sensitive space to explore your identity. Bilingual in Spanish and English, I've primarily worked with Latinx populations. I believe in tailoring treatment to your unique needs, blending traditional and innovative therapies to achieve balance and wellness. I commend your journey towards wholeness and look forward to working with you!
Our first session is a collaborative start to your journey. We'll get acquainted, discuss your goals, and ensure we're a good fit. Expect authenticity, open communication, and a judgment-free environment. We'll build a foundation for a strong partnership by setting clear expectations and exploring your background, values, and goals. If time allows, we'll even begin uncovering the reasons behind your decision to seek therapy. This session prioritizes establishing a comfortable space where you feel empowered to be your true self.
Having started my counseling career in education, I feel my greatest strength as a provider has been the ability to connect with my clients in a way that they feel safe in a therapeutic relationship with me. I learned that my authentic self helps me do the best work for those that need it most and at the time they are seeking services.
We focus on the solution, not the problem. Goal setting is key!
EMDR utilizes eye movement and bilateral stimulus to reprocess traumatic memories in order to help heal and move forward in a healthy way.
CBT allows us to look at behaviors and thoughts using talk therapy to help manage them and allow an opportunity to change our thoughts and behaviors.
We work on affirming a persons gender, not "fixing" or "repairing" it.
Using structural therapy, we will map out rules, structures, and patterns within the family unit and examine how the family dynamics work to better understand the family as a unit.
