Thank you for reaching out for assistance. I am Lewis Smith, a licensed therapist in the District of Columbia. I have been working for over 20 years with individuals, couples, and families to resolve a myriad of problems. With your permission, I look forward to working with you! You have already completed the first and most important step by reaching out for assistance! If you are ready to move forward, then I am ready to take the next step with you! Improving the quality of your life is both a choice and responsibility. Consider making an appointment with me, right now.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Building a relationship with each other takes time! With that, comes trust! We can go as fast or as slow as you like! We will establish what therapy is, my style and determines what possibilities you want to achieve. Along the way, we will take a quick look at what you have done to resolve your issue and possibly highlight any challenges or obstacles that can get in the way and begin the formulation of a plan to move forward. This generally is accomplished in a few sessions! As we progress, you can expect to receive an assignment in the form of a worksheet, a simple task to be accomplished, or a challenge to move forward!

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

As a cognitive-behavioral therapist, I look at thoughts, feelings, and behavior in context of a problem or situation. Beyond talk therapy I sometimes use video, music and simple relaxation techniques. I want to make sure that I am rendering a service that achieves results. Periodically, I use a simple on-line tool to determine how counseling is working for you and takes only a few minutes to complete. Depending on your specific needs, I may use specialized assessments that will help us to understand the full nature of the problem. Special assessments are normally completed on your own time and brought to sessions for discussion.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I enjoy the challenge associated in working with those that have anxiety, personality, or trauma and stressor related disorders. Addiction is something that impacts many of our families. Over the years, I have worked with a large number of individuals to change there way of life!
