Hi, I’m Dr. Latricia (Nikki) Edwards, DNP, CPNP-AC, PMHNP-BC, a dual board-certified Acute Care Pediatric and Psychiatric Mental Health nurse practitioner committed to helping children and adults improve their overall mental and emotional well-being. I work with individuals facing a wide range of mental health concerns — whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, navigating life transitions, struggling with focus or mood changes, or simply not feeling like yourself. Mental health challenges can show up in many different ways, and you don’t have to have everything figured out before seeking support.

What sets me apart is my ability to look at the full picture — emotional, psychological, medical, and environmental factors — rather than focusing on symptoms alone.

My approach is collaborative, respectful, and individualized. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive therapy using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. I believe in educating my clients about their treatment options, so they feel empowered and actively involved in their care. In our sessions, you can expect a professional yet approachable environment where your concerns are taken seriously. My goal is not only symptom improvement but helping you function better in your daily life — mentally, emotionally, and practically. Seeking help is a strong first step. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward stability, clarity, and lasting wellness.

First session

During our first session, my primary goal is to get a thorough understanding of you — your concerns, your history, and what you hope to gain from treatment. We will review your current symptoms, past mental health history, medical background, medications, and any significant life stressors. I will ask thoughtful questions to help clarify what may be contributing to your current challenges. This is also your opportunity to share what has — or hasn’t — worked for you in the past. If appropriate, we may discuss potential diagnoses and treatment options, including whether medication, therapy, or a combination approach would be most beneficial. I will explain recommendations clearly so you feel informed and involved in every decision. My approach is collaborative and respectful. You can expect a structured but supportive environment where your concerns are taken seriously. By the end of our first session, you will have a clearer understanding of next steps and a treatment plan tailored to your goals.

Strengths

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to combine clinical expertise with a practical, real-life approach to mental health treatment. As a doctoral-prepared, board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring advanced training and broad experience working with individuals across varying levels of care and complexity. What sets me apart is my ability to look at the full picture — emotional, psychological, medical, and environmental factors — rather than focusing on symptoms alone. My dual background and extensive experience allow me to thoughtfully assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans that are both evidence-based and individualized. I am known for being thorough, structured, and collaborative. Clients appreciate that I take time to educate them about their diagnosis and treatment options so they feel informed and empowered. I prioritize medication optimization when needed, while also integrating therapeutic strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing to support long-term growth. I also bring strong communication and leadership skills into my practice, which translates into clear guidance, consistency, and accountability in treatment. My goal is not just symptom management — it is improved daily functioning, emotional stability, and sustainable wellness.

Ideal clients

I am best positioned to serve adolescents and adults who are ready to take an active role in improving their mental health. My ideal clients may be experiencing changes in mood, difficulty managing stress, problems with focus, emotional overwhelm, or challenges navigating life transitions. Some are high-functioning but struggling internally, while others are working toward greater stability and clarity in their daily lives. I work well with individuals who value honest communication, structure, and collaborative treatment planning. Whether you are seeking a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, supportive therapy, or a combination of both, I provide a thoughtful and individualized approach. My ideal clients do not need to have all the answers — they simply need to be open to growth, accountability, and working toward meaningful change. Together, we focus on building practical coping strategies, improving daily functioning, and creating sustainable mental wellness.

Treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

I have been using Motivational Interviewing in my session for many years as a way to help clients feel heard, supported, and empowered in their treatment. This approach allows us to explore change at your pace, without pressure or judgment.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT-informed approaches consistently throughout my clinical practice and continue to integrate them as a core part of my work with clients.
