Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota with over 15 years of experience counseling. Most of my experience with clients has centered around issues related to depression, anxiety, behavioral dysregulation, attachment and relationship challenges as well as healthy boundaries and communication. I have extensive experience counseling parents of adopted children as well as working with youth with complex trauma and PTSD. My approach to therapy is highly person-centered, and inclusive of Gestalt, family systems and solution-focused elements. I truly believe each of us has the ability to find direction, balance and healing in our lives, we just need some guidance and an outside perspective at times to help get "un-stuck". I am also a big fan of strengths-based approaches utilizing the innate wisdom and resilience we possess. I seek to work collaboratively with my clients to develop timely and action-oriented treatment strategies to assist you in attaining the balance and restoration to live your fullest life.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I value providing a safe and inclusive space for my clients to feel like they are being truly seen, heard and "met" in any emotional or mental place they may be. I like to take a collaborative approach with my clients to identify reasonable and actionable goals for success.
Michael Koehler offers therapy covered by UCare - Medicaid in Minnesota.
I utilize deep listening and empathy to help clients have awareness of emotions that are not being recognized to identify unmet needs.
I help my clients identify goals based on strengths and areas they would like to focus on for symptom relief.
I utilize trauma-based approaches throughout the assessment and treatment phases to ensure any past adverse experiences are acknowledged and a safety is established throughout.
I have had the privilege of living overseas as well as treating a diversity of international clients as well as some experience with LGTBQ+. I seek to honor and create a culturally-responsive and safe environment for my clients of diverse backgrounds.
I utilize mindfulness as a basis for much of the treatment and symptom alleviation as it is one of the most powerful tools we possess to create internal calm, safety as well as develop awareness and skill in managing difficult or challenging emotions.
