Kirk Stoner
I am a pro-active psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner providing quality mental health diagnosis and treatment including quality medication management providing guidance in 'current' trends and medication use for mental health disorders supported with mindfulness and supportive therapies. My clients appreciate the extra time spent with them.
I am an 'outside the box' thinker while maintaining a commitment to the latest evidence-based practices. You will find me to be very transparent and passionate.
I believe in treating the whole person, and referring out when appropriate to other modalities and therapies.
First session
Our first session with be a much needed 'get to know' you time period. The 'intake' is considered a medical visit and I will collect data on your medical health but also a deep look at your mental health history and current symptoms and needs to provide an accurate diagnosis. You will find the time well spent with a focus on the things that matter. Starting with good diagnosis or suspected diagnoses is necessary to provide you the best care possible. MANY have been under or over treated, underdiagnosed, etc. I believe in 'less meds is best'; But, you must have the right combination. Remission of disordered symptoms is the goal and is achievable. The first appointment may feel slightly rushed in the time we are allotted, but follow ups will be very relaxed and casual.
Strengths
I am mature and my life experiences allow me to connect on a level that may be different than other providers. I am very open, non-judgmental and empathetic for all my clients. I tend to be a good listener while also providing psychoeducation and guidance over sleep health, wellness, physical health, relationship and spiritual health when appropriate. I am an 'outside the box' thinker while maintaining a commitment to the latest evidence-based practices. You will find me to be very transparent and passionate. GONE are the days of 'take this med and I will see you in 6 weeks'; I provide very close follow up (in the beginning until you are stable and well) and I prefer to help you get well sooner and not later.
Ideal clients
Adult, young adult and adolescents with a history of depression, anxiety, focus and concentration issues, anger issues and/or trauma who may have be seeking help for the first time, or who may have had 'many' providers in the past (medical treatment trauma). Too often we are underdiagnosed or incorrectly diagnosed. Breaking the barriers of access to good quality mental health care is something I am passionate about. Those with complex mood disorders are welcomed. LGBTQ+ Friendly. No judgements here.
