Do you ever struggle with negative self talk? Feeling overwhelmed with life in general? Have episodes of depression, anxiety or trauma and not sure how to gain control over your emotions? Have you had a bad experience with a therapist in the past? Sometimes you think you might have an issue with alcohol or substances? If any of this feels familiar my name is Susan and I would love to meet with you. My practice works with individuals who identify as straight or LGBTQAI that have a history of anxiety, depression, trauma or substance abuse. I work with everyday people struggling to make sense of “why do I do what I do.” Life is complicated enough…therapy should not be.
My primary goal is to help people understand that there are reasons why we act and react in certain ways and that everything we do has purpose. Once we can understand why you do and say certain things the follow up question is “is that still working for you?” If it works great, but if you are not getting the response or results that you want then maybe there are different strategies you can use to get you closer to your desired outcome.
I use a broad stroke approach utilizing the best of evidenced-based practices like Trauma Focused CBT, DBT, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, and thought blocking to help people see improvement and change.
A good therapist is a balancing act of respecting and understanding the choices people make while providing clear feedback, observations and education about alternative options and choices. Ultimately people make the right choice for themselves. Trusting the process is the art of therapy.

Susan is a fantastic emotion professional. She's open, warm and always provides amazing insight. One of the things I appreciate is that she's very solution oriented so I feel like my path is and next steps are always clear. Susan helps me find clarity in what my feelings are, the source of the issue, and then putting me on a path to healing it.

Susan is always a breath of fresh air to talk to. She shows up each time ready to listen, helps me to process and ultimately find solutions. I appreciate how authentic and genuine Susan is.

When I talk to Susan, I feel more like I'm talking to a friend than a therapist. I am more willing to listen to her ideas, where I might shut out a more "business-like" approach. She always encourages me to take on a goal, and she is also very good at reminding me to be kind to myself. I feel that I can say things and she will remain nonjudgemental, so that I feel more confident in sharing my thoughts, emotions, and opinions. The trust is there!
