Michael Britt
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I bring a thoughtful, straightforward approach to helping adults navigate life’s challenges. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress, or major life transitions, I provide a supportive environment where insight and practical change can happen. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, build resilience, and create meaningful, sustainable improvements in your life.
First session
Clients can expect a collaborative and straightforward first session. We'll discuss what's bringing you to therapy, explore the patterns or challenges that may be contributing to your current struggles, and identify what you'd like to change. I strive to make therapy approachable and useful from the start, so clients often leave with a better understanding of their situation, a sense of direction, and confidence that we have a plan for moving forward together.
Strengths
My approach combines evidence-based therapy with a practical, straightforward style. I draw from multiple therapeutic frameworks and psychological research, then help clients apply those concepts in ways that are relevant to their daily lives. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, I work to make complex ideas understandable and actionable, helping clients gain clarity, build effective skills, and create lasting change.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to better understand themselves and create meaningful change, even if they're not yet sure how to get there. Many are dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, or life transitions and want an approach that is both insightful and practical. They appreciate honest conversations, evidence-based strategies, and a therapy process that focuses on turning understanding into action.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Processing (CPT)
I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy and use it as my basic approach for trauma based therapy with people that prefer an non exposure based thought oriented start to addressing any trauma history.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as a compliment to most therapies as away to orient therapy to your personal values.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to provide coping skills for emotion regulation, crisis management, interpersonal communication skills, and for addressing difficult situations that may be beyond your control.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use cognitive behavioral therapy as a starting point often combined with education on nervous system basics as a way to determine if behaviors are a good first step or addressing thinking patterns can be effective when fight flight is not already too activated.
Strength-Based
Identifying your strengths then building on what you already can and are doing often makes people realize their inner strength is ready to be tapped.
