Hello! I'll get right to the point - these are the main issues I specialize in: 1. TRAUMA/PTSD. This includes all types of trauma (physical, sexual, emotional, psychological) and residual trauma symptoms (OCD, anxiety, depression). 2. OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDERS. This includes all types of OCD, uncertainty, and doubt. 3. SELF/RELATIONSHIP ISSUES, including: a. CODEPENDENCY (i.e. people pleasing, inability to say no, fear of upsetting others, lack of assertiveness, chronic feelings of obligation). b. PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE (manipulative friends, family, romantic partners, controlling relationships, cults, abusive churches, workplace bullying, hazing, sexual coercion, undue influence, toxic people of all kinds). c. IDENTITY and PERSONALITY CONCERNS (poor boundaries, lack of purpose/identity, career and higher education concerns, narcissism, former cult members, schizoid personality). Do any of these describe you or your situation? If so, I'd love to meet you and talk about how we can work together to overcome your struggles. Feel free to browse through my profile and if you feel so inclined, make an appointment so we can work toward restoring balance to your world again.
Finding a therapist is like dating: There has to be chemistry! I want to be matched with the right person too, so I only list specialties in which I am both experienced and trained. If you see something listed on my profile, then I have both experience and training in that specialty. If you do not see it on my profile, then we are not a good match. In our first session, I will spend the first half addressing your concerns, and the second half explaining how I work and the methods I use. I will also answer any questions you have for me.
I am skills oriented and I use a teaching style to help you learn these skills so that you can practice them on your own. My goal is to get you to the point where you don't need me anymore. Most people spend approximately 3-6 months working with me and then "graduate." Some choose to continue working with me beyond this point on a less frequent basis (i.e. "tune-ups") to maintain any gains they have made. Like physical therapy, the idea is to achieve "maximum medical improvement." Some symptoms are resolved completely (i.e. go into full remission). Others will never completely go away, but you will become more skilled in managing those symptoms with finesse.
Individual adults only (18+). I do not work with minors or couples. Please be sure to complete the Intake Form before our first appointment. Failure to do so will require us to spend our first session completing it together.
I believe that people are unique; therefore their therapy should be just as unique. I will throw everything at your situation that I have to work with. Some of the methods I frequently borrow from include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Interpersonal Therapy, Jungian Therapy, Psychoeducation. I also practice the following methods as described below:
I am a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) with the North American Drama Therapy Association. I rely heavily on Role Theory in my work with issues of identity/self (similar to IFS, but much more robust). I also enjoy using psychodrama for those who want to try something different.
In addition to ERP, I also use principles of Inference-Based CBT and Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) to treat symptoms of both OCD and PTSD. I will also use other methods to work with you on your feared possible self, a common underlying issue in OCD. PLEASE NOTE: Traditional talk therapy is NOT a suitable treatment for OCD.
Do you have trouble enforcing or respecting boundaries? I have developed a program that will have you seeing boundaries more clearly in six sessions or less!
