Hi! I'm a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Certified Nurse Practitioner based in Minnesota. I also have a MA in Counseling and Psychological Services. I am able to prescribe, diagnose and treat individuals 6 years and older. I work in a rural community which allows me to provide mental health services to individuals who may otherwise not seek help due to having to travels so far to get services. I also work with other companies to ensure clients are receiving the services they are seeking instead of waiting 6 months to get in for an evaluation. I provide telehealth and in-person visits in both Minnesota and North Dakota.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Prior to the initial session, you will receive some paperwork that will be very important to complete prior to the appointment as it will provide me with some insight into what the issues may be. The initial session usually takes 45 - 60 minutes to complete. During that initial session, I will ask to hear your view of the issue at hand, ask about your symptoms and when they started, and then ask a variety of assessment questions that will help me narrow down a diagnosis or treatment plan. Sometimes I will have you, your loved ones, or others in your life (teachers, coaches) a diagnostic assessment gorm to complete that will further assist in the diagnostic process. If it is deemed that medication is needed, we will review and discuss the various options so you can make an educated decision on which direction you want to go with your treatment. I will be right there to support you in the process. We will also discuss next steps and answer any additional questions you or your loved ones may have.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work hard to be an active listener with my clients to find out what is most important to them in their care. My hope is that not only will the diagnosis be more accurate, but we will find a treatment plan that they will want to be part of and engage in.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Over the past year or so I have spent most of my time working with clients having ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar, oppositional defiant, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, eating disorders, and physical and sexual trauma. Over the years I have worked with a wide variety of psychological disorders.

My treatment methods

Motivational Interviewing

I have used motivational interviewing in sessions when the client is struggling to take the first step in making a decision, or making a change in their life. It helps to see where the patient is at in terms of their desire to change and hopefully by utilizing motivational interviewing we can find additional ways to motivate them to continue on their treatment pathway.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy approaches to help clients identify maladaptive thoughts and behaviors and then provide them with alternative solutions to manage thoughts and behaviors, so they have a number of tools in their toolbox to access when faced with challenging situations,

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe it is very important for the client to have a voice in their treatment plan and therefore the client will always be able to voice their ideas and together we will develop a treatment plan that both of us can work with.
