Hello! My name is Jorge Hincapie. I am a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Florida with more than 50 years of life experience and 10 as a psychotherapist. I have a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor’s in Systems Engineering and Computer Science. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Qualified Supervisor (QS). I was born in South America and have been living in the United States for more than two decades. I have provided therapy to teens, adults, and couples -both in English and Spanish- and have also facilitated therapy groups in different settings. I have worked with children, survivors of domestic violence, and also have five years of experience working with individuals who struggle with addictions in a rehab center. After working with computers for almost two decades, I decided to follow my passion for psychology and the dream of becoming a psychotherapist. I love helping people from all paths of life to feel better and to create a life worth living. I am passionate about the therapeutic work that I do, and I thrive on the opportunity to assist you to improve and achieve the life that you desire. I can guide you in using your strengths and unique capabilities for self-healing, in a non-judgmental and confidential space, where we can safely explore your beliefs, thoughts, and emotions. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First, we can have a free 15-minute phone call to briefly tell me about your situation and what you are going through. This will help us to know if we are a good fit for each other. I will answer any questions you might have about how my therapy approach will help you get back to feeling healthy, mentally and emotionally. If we decide to work together, we will meet weekly to work on your emotional wounds and symptoms until we see significant progress and you feel better. In our first session, we will meet to do a brief introduction, do the initial assessment, and identify the challenges you are facing. Then we will decide on the next steps together and what goals we will be working on. Working on yourself will help you bring about change in your life and move forward.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

My goal is to get to the root of your difficulties by exploring your thoughts, feelings, and core beliefs, probably related to early stages in life or your childhood, so you can experience life changes. We work together with your strengths and unique capabilities for self-healing, in a non-judgmental and confidential space. Depending on your needs, I might use different skills and techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Mindfulness to work with you. However, I mainly use a combination of experiential therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), parts work or Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cohesive Therapy, that can help you change the way you feel or have felt emotions in the past, and can also help you to reduce symptoms by addressing hidden or subconscious issues.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I specialize on working with clients who have anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and trauma or PTSD, among other mental health issues. My experience also includes five years of working at a rehabilitation center, helping clients who struggle with addictions. I work with individual clients in English and Spanish, ages 18 and up, who come from different lifestyles and often culturally diverse backgrounds, such as Hispanics or Latinos and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with adults, ages 18 and up, in English or Spanish. My clients have emotional wounds or unresolved issues they would like to change and don’t know how, most of the time coming from childhood; they feel down, lonely, unmotivated, or don’t know what to do; they have problems at work or with family or friends. My clients also want to feel better about themselves and their lives and they want to create a life worth living. Because they don’t yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality, they often feel stuck and overwhelmed, and they seek professional help and guidance.
