(she/her)
I have been in the healthcare field for over 30 years as a nurse. In 2020, I became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I use the knowledge I have acquired throughout my career to help patients reach their full potential. I provide comprehensive support through both medication and therapeutic approaches to assist patients in achieving stabilization.
Initially, I gather information from the client concerning what issues or event triggered them to seek help. From there, I discuss situations and/or events that worsen the symptoms or trigger a negative response. I use assessment scales and information obtained from the interview to gain valuable insight and understanding of the patient's mental health status. Patients are encouraged to participate to their fullest in order to properly assess their problem areas and obtain a true sense of self. Once obtained, the information gathered is used to create a plan that is specific to that patient and their needs. The plan is discussed at length with the patient. Once the plan is initiated, both therapy and or medications are considered and ordered for patients as necessary. My ultimate goal, as provider, is to create and foster a therapeutic relationship that supports mental health stability.
I am very strong and proficient at medication management. I also have an extensive history as a nurse of over 30 years. I have experience with all types of clients from the very young to the very old. I have been on staff at 2 hospitals with admitting and rounding privileges. (2 geriatric acute care units and 1 acute care juvenile facility) I have training with general medical complaints as well as extensive training working with some of the most difficult to manage clients. I have experience treating all mental health disparities ranging from Schizophrenia, Autism, Bipolar to ADD/ ADHD, Anxiety and Depression. I also have experience with children as young as age 4-5 years old and have treated patients that are nearing 100 years old. I also have experience treating women mental health issues during pregnancy and through postpartum.
I enjoy working with clients of all ages, as mental health issues are not confined by age, physical traits, or socioeconomic differences. I love listening to clients share their concerns and helping them grow through guidance and supportive care.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I provide personalized care plans aimed at enhancing quality of life. CBT therapy works to reshape negative thoughts and behaviors. Returning to basics removes uncertainty and helps individuals create a structured, goal-oriented "to-do list." Combining this approach with medication support can effectively address mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, as well as emotional challenges such as coping with grief or stress.
Psychoeducation
I use psychoeducation to empower individuals by sharing knowledge, resources, and coping strategies related to specific mental health conditions or concerns. This approach enhances awareness, leading to better mental health outcomes. By providing tools and understanding, I help reduce stigma and increase individual awareness for better patient outcomes. Knowledge is power.
Supportive
Therapy focuses on exploring the client's feelings by addressing key issues and working towards resolutions in a supportive and empathetic environment. The therapist practices active listening, which helps the client identify topics they wish to discuss. The therapist demonstrates support by showing empathy, expressing concern, offering emotional support, and validating the client's feelings and resolutions. Additionally, the therapist may provide practical advice and coping strategies, such as relaxation techniques or problem-solving methods, to help the client manage their symptoms and enhance their quality of life. The therapeutic environment is safe and judgment-free, encouraging clients to express themselves openly and honestly. Feedback and guidance are provided as needed to maintain balance in the conversation. Supportive psychotherapy can effectively treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), relationship problems, substance use disorders, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
