Hello, I’m Sherry Pressley, a Licensed Professional Counselor. I provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore life’s challenges, gain insight, and develop practical tools for lasting change. I work with children, teens and adults experiencing anxiety, stress, relationship concerns, life transitions, ADHD-related challenges, trauma, and depression, helping them move toward greater balance, confidence, and emotional well-being. My approach is collaborative, client-centered, and grounded in evidence-based practices tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know one another and discussing what brings you to counseling. I’ll ask questions about your current concerns, personal history, strengths, and goals so I can better understand your unique situation. You’ll have the opportunity to share at your own pace, ask questions, and discuss what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, we’ll begin identifying areas of focus and develop a plan that feels supportive, practical, and aligned with your needs.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring warmth, authenticity, empathy, and a calm, grounded presence to each session. Clients often appreciate my ability to balance compassionate support with honest feedback, helping them feel both understood and empowered to make meaningful changes. My approach stands out because I focus on creating a genuine therapeutic relationship while combining practical, evidence-based strategies with a strengths-based perspective that helps clients recognize their resilience and build confidence in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop a healthier relationship with difficult thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. Rather than focusing on eliminating discomfort, ACT encourages individuals to build psychological flexibility by learning to accept what is outside their control while taking meaningful action aligned with their values. In my work, I help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, increase mindfulness and self-awareness, clarify what matters most to them, and make choices that support the life they want to create. ACT is particularly helpful for individuals struggling with anxiety, stress, life transitions, self-criticism, overthinking, and feeling stuck.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I utilize Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) principles to help clients process traumatic experiences and understand how those experiences may influence their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of self. My approach focuses on identifying and challenging unhelpful beliefs that can develop after trauma, such as feelings of guilt, shame, self-blame, mistrust, or hopelessness. Together, we examine how these beliefs impact daily functioning and work toward developing more balanced, accurate perspectives. CPT-informed interventions can be especially beneficial for individuals experiencing symptoms related to trauma, PTSD, difficult life events, military-related experiences, or significant losses, helping them regain a greater sense of control, safety, and emotional well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I frequently incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) into my work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD-related challenges, low self-esteem, and relationship concerns. CBT helps individuals recognize the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and identify patterns that may be contributing to distress or keeping them stuck. My approach is collaborative and practical, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, build healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful behavioral changes. I strive to make CBT relatable and applicable to everyday life so clients can develop tools that support long-term emotional wellness and resilience.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore ambivalence, strengthen motivation, and build confidence in their ability to make meaningful changes. Rather than directing or persuading clients, I take a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach that helps individuals identify their own reasons for change and connect those reasons to their personal values and goals. I often incorporate MI when working with clients who feel stuck, uncertain, or conflicted about decisions related to relationships, health, life transitions, personal growth, or behavior change. My goal is to create a supportive environment where clients feel empowered to move forward at a pace that feels realistic and sustainable for them.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to help clients improve emotional regulation, tolerate distress, strengthen interpersonal relationships, and develop greater mindfulness. My approach focuses on helping clients balance acceptance and change—learning to acknowledge difficult emotions and experiences while also building practical skills to respond more effectively. I frequently use DBT-informed strategies with individuals who experience intense emotions, anxiety, relationship challenges, impulsive behaviors, or difficulty managing stress. Through skill-building, self-awareness, and practice, clients learn healthier ways to navigate challenges, communicate their needs, and respond to life’s demands with greater confidence and resilience.
