Robert Aguilar
Many of us, including myself, can find it difficult to identify the cause of generally feeling discomfort and uneasiness. We might wake up feeling stuck, worthless, hopeless, lacking energy or simply have no sense of self. It is the heavy feeling in the chest or gut, an overwhelming feeling of not being who or what we thought we would be in life.
My expertise in human connection sets me apart from traditional sex therapists, as I understand that sexual concerns often stem from deeper emotional and relational issues.
That feeling of malaise does not respect if you are male, female, non-binary or if you are 16 or 65 years of age. Any of us can and will suffer from anxiety and / or depression at some point in our lives. I have helped individuals with wide ranging mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, PTSD, adjustment disorders, and many other mental health issues. I approach all my clients from a place of empathy, curiosity, and wonder. I do not judge, as I strongly believe nobody knows your life and experiences better than you. For this reason, I treat every case as unique and I approach every client with an open heart and mind. Regardless of your specific challenge, you are special and deserve the best treatment possible. I have the benefit of having lived and survived my 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and even some of my 50’s. I understand both the joy and frustrations of being married for 25+ years and having raised children. I get that life is messy! That’s why I do what I do.
First session
A first therapy session is typically an opportunity for a therapist and client to get to know each other and discuss the reasons for seeking therapy. During this session, the therapist will ask the client about their concerns, experiences, and goals for therapy. The therapist will also discuss the therapy process, including the frequency and length of sessions, as well as the therapeutic approach they will use. The therapist will take time to answer any questions the client may have and to ensure they understand the therapeutic process. The therapist will also use this time to gather important information about the client's history and current situation, including their physical, emotional, and mental health. This information will help the therapist develop a personalized treatment plan.
Strengths
As a sex therapist with a focus on human connection, I combine two important aspects of therapy: addressing sexual concerns and promoting emotional intimacy. My unique approach highlights the significance of emotional and interpersonal connection in sexual relationships and well-being. My expertise in human connection sets me apart from traditional sex therapists, as I understand that sexual concerns often stem from deeper emotional and relational issues. By focusing on both the physical and emotional components of sexuality, I help my clients build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. My super power of human connection allows me to create a safe, non-judgmental space for my clients to openly discuss their sexual concerns and feelings.
