Margaret Adkins

LISW (she/her)1 year of experience

Hello! My name is Margaret Adkins, and I have a passion for empowering clients to navigate through their substance abuse and mood disorders, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief. I am an independent, licensed social worker and an independent licensed chemical dependency counselor. My therapy focus is to help you develop healthy coping skills that will enable you to be the best version of yourself and to overcome the adversity and stigma of mental health and/or addiction.

First session

I understand that starting therapy is a big step, and it's completely normal to feel nervous. During our first session, we'll focus on getting to know each other, talking about what brought you to therapy, and exploring what you'd like to get out of our work together. There's no pressure to tell your whole story in one session; we will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard and hopeful that we can work together toward change.

Strengths

My therapy approach is to help you heal at your own pace. I will offer you a safe place to process and express your feelings and begin to learn new techniques and skills to continue to heal and grow. I believe in meeting you where you are with a connection in a warm, open, and non-judgmental atmosphere. I utilize evidence-based practices, including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness meditation, and solution-focused therapy techniques.

Ideal clients

I work with teenagers and adults and offer support for clients in navigating concerns such as mood and personality disorders, anger management, anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, and adjustment to life transitions. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready for change, we'll work together to identify your strengths, develop practical coping strategies and grounding techniques, and create goals that fit your life to help you feel secure in the changes you are making or desire to make.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
