Hey y'all! I’m Megan (she/her), a queer licensed clinical social worker in the state of Oregon, Washington, and Kentucky. In 2013, I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with two bachelor of arts degrees: psychology and Spanish. During my undergraduate degree I studied in three countries: the United States, Spain, and Chile. In 2015, I was blessed to graduate Magna Cum Laude from University of Tennessee Knoxville Graduate School of Social Work satellite campus in Nashville with a Master in Social Work with a specialization certification in Trauma Treatment. Primarily, I treat women with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and anxiety in adults. I also specialize in working with women in same-sex relationships. As an anti-oppressive practitioner— I am both LGBTQ Affirmative and believe Black Lives Matter. Additionally, I am anti-war activist. My household is no stranger to long-COVID/long-vax and auto-immune disorders. That is why I strive to create a safe space and empower clients to process feelings about their health status as they get accustomed to new norms. Nine years ago, I met my gorgeous -now- husband. We have been married for 7 years now and live with our cat Thunder. I love to hike, travel, and cook gluten-free veggie dishes. I am always looking for more opportunities to volunteer on behalf of social justice, the environment, and animals. Spiritually, I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, but half of my family is Methodist and Evangelical. I believe, like Huston Smith, that at the end of the day all religions have the same desire to be close to the same God and everyone wants to become better humans. The goal is to love God through our actions and coexist in peace.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my greatest strengths as a provider is that I am a "forever-student". I never pretend that I know it all, because there's always so much more to learn. I'm a nerd who is always interested in the latest research and evidence based treatments. Outside of being a nerd- I do my best to always align with the client and meet them where they are at in their journey.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

For individual or one-on-one sessions, I love working with women from diverse backgrounds who struggle with nightmares, vivid traumatic memories, panic attacks, trouble with sleep, loss of energy, difficulty concentrating, feelings of worthlessness and excessive guilt that are wanting to learn new coping skills as well as let go of the negative emotional weight. For couples sessions, I love working with women in same-sex relationships that have hit a rough patch and feel like they aren’t communicating well or that trauma is in some way impacting the relationship. These lovers committed to the therapeutic process to repair past hurts, increase closeness and intimacy, improve friendship, deepen emotional connection, and create long-lasting change.

My treatment methods

EMDR

EMDR is an excellent modality, and I've been trained through EMDRIA and EMDRIA supervisors to treat women struggling with PTSD, Complex PTSD, OCD, Anxiety, and Autism. I've been using EMDR as a practitioner successfully in sessions since 2017.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is one of the first modalities social workers learn to implement in their masters program. After I graduated, I also took a course with the BECK institute to better hone this skill. I use CBT to help women with anxiety, depression, and OCD, empowering them to reality check and re-frame negative cognitions.

Gottman method

During the pandemic, I realized there never seemed to be enough couple's therapists and got trained in all three levels of Gottman Counseling. As a queer therapist with well-over 100 hours working with couples, I've found my passion is helping women in same sex relationships using Gottman Method. Think of me as a conversation coach.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

While I am by no means certified in IFS, there is a method in EMDR that is blended with IFS to treat complex PTSD and OCD.
