Hi, I’m Kaja Switalska, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in helping adults, with particular focus on college-aged individuals, manage anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and adjustment issues. I aim to provide a welcoming, judgment-free space where you can feel heard. I often use humor to keep things light while also addressing real challenges. In our first sessions, we’ll get to know your unique needs and develop attainable goals. My approach blends CBT, mindfulness, solution-focused strategies, and motivational interviewing.
In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other and start building a connection. It’s a chance for you to share what’s on your mind and for me to understand what brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about your goals, and together, we’ll start figuring out how to make them feel achievable. I want you to feel safe and comfortable in this space to explore what’s going on in your life, and I’ll probably throw in a little humor along the way to help lighten the mood. This is all about taking the first step toward positive change—at your pace.
I believe therapy should be a safe, judgment-free space for vulnerability. Starting therapy can feel daunting, but I’m here to support you every step of the way. If cheesy motivational slogans aren’t your thing, I may be a good fit for you—I'm down-to-earth, realistic, and focused on helping you make real progress towards your goals. I’m passionate about helping people thrive, not just survive. My goal is to empower you with the strengths and coping strategies you already have—whether you’ve discovered them yet or need help along the way. Everyone deserves to live with confidence, and I’m here to help you get there. If I sound like a good fit, reach out to get started!
I enjoy working with individuals in early to middle adulthood who are navigating life transitions and exploring who they are. Whether you're dealing with changes in relationships, career, or personal identity, I'm here to help. I specialize in supporting people through anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, providing guidance and tools to manage these challenges. Together, we'll work toward building a strong sense of self and finding clarity in the midst of uncertainty.
I first learned about CBT in grad school and have since applied it in various roles, including IOP and individual therapy. Every job I've had involved using elements of CBT to help clients challenge negative thought patterns and develop healthier behaviors. As a self-proclaimed logical thinker, CBT resonates with me—it provides structured, practical tools for creating change. I enjoy its clear approach and how it empowers clients to recognize and reshape their thoughts for lasting growth.
In therapy, I use motivational interviewing (MI) to support clients through any process of change or goal setting, whether it's related to addiction, personal growth, or other life challenges. MI is a client-centered, collaborative approach that creates a safe space for clients to explore their ambivalence about change. I help clients identify their own motivations, clarify their values, and strengthen their sense of autonomy. By focusing on their strengths and goals, MI encourages self-reflection, reduces resistance, and empowers clients to take meaningful steps toward positive change in their lives.
I use strength-based approaches with all of my clients, as I believe in empowering them by focusing on the skills, resources, and resilience they already have in their lives. This approach helps clients recognize their own abilities and strengths, which builds confidence and fosters a sense of agency. By highlighting what’s already working for them, I guide clients in leveraging these strengths to overcome challenges and make meaningful progress toward their goals.
In my practice, I've seen the powerful benefits of mindfulness in treating anxiety and depression. By guiding clients to focus on the present moment, mindfulness helps reduce overwhelming thoughts and emotional distress. I’ve used mindfulness techniques to help clients manage stress, increase self-awareness, and find moments of peace in their daily lives. It’s been a valuable tool for promoting relaxation and mental clarity, empowering clients to better navigate life’s challenges.
