LICSW, 3 years of experience
New to Grow
My name is Maryanne Henderson (she/her), and I am a licensed clinical social worker in the DMV area. I am a trauma-informed therapist, trained in several modalities including grief therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), solution-focused-brief-treatment, and mindfulness. With a background in crisis intervention, aging, supporting caregivers and adults with disabilities, my therapeutic approach is always comprehensive and person-centered.
Clients can anticipate a brief assessment period in their first session in order to determine treatment goals and/or to best consider if our particular client and therapist relationship will be a helpful partnership. Clients can also anticipate something to take away with them before returning for next session, whether it be a tool, a resource or an exercise.
I seek to create a safe, open and therapeutic environment for clients to grow and flourish.
I am a trauma-informed clinician with experience in crisis intervention and supporting adults with co-occuring mental health disorders and clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Clients who have never been to therapy are most welcome. Clients who are unsure about therapy are also most welcome. Clients who are at their breaking point and not even sure how to make a therapy goal are most welcome.
I support clients on understanding the connections between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors and how to reframe unhelpful patterns.
DBT has been particularly useful in supporting clients with distress tolerance and emotional regulation.
I have used EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) particularly with clients who experience post traumatic stress. This treatment method facilitates the client's own natural brain reorganization to find healing.
Grief therapy is a modality I often use in connection with other treatments as needed. Having worked in a trauma clinic for several years, meeting clients wherever they are in their grief has been critical in my work as a therapist.
