Hello! I am Debbie Diaz, a Licensed Professional counselor currently practicing in Texas. I am from the Rio Grande Valley and currently practice in-person therapy in Harlingen, Texas. I graduated with my Masters of Education in Counseling and Guidance in 2014 from the University of Texas at Brownsville. I have over 14 years of experience working in the mental health field and have worked with different populations ranging from domestic violence, CPS cases, children placed in emergency shelters, along with children with ADHD, anger management, Child-Parent conflicts, Depression and Anxiety. I use Solution Focus Therapy, CBT, Psychoeducation along with a Person-Center Approach to help my clients identify techniques and coping skills that will work for them. I truly honor and respect the courage it takes to make the first step in seeking counseling and I hope I can work alongside with you to help you reach your goal.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

As an experienced licensed professional counselor (LPC), my goal is to help you overcome challenges and improve your well-being. In our sessions, you'll find a safe space to express yourself. I'll actively listen and compassionately challenge you to examine your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You'll gain relief, self-awareness, improved coping skills, empowerment, and personal growth.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a licensed professional counselor, my expertise lies in a wide range of areas, including anxiety, child and adolescent issues, family conflict, self-esteem, ADHD, anger management, and parenting issues. However, my true passion lies in empowering individuals to identify their strengths and helping them see what they can accomplish! By fostering resilience, promoting self-discovery, and guiding clients through the counseling relationship, I will help you discover your inner power to overcome challenges and create positive change.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with children and the impact I can potentially make in their lives. I truly care for my clients and want to see them become their best self with tools and skills they learn in therapy. Children are in need of help just as much as adults but may not know how to effectively communicate their feelings or how to express themselves. I have experience working with children and adults dealing with stress, anxiety, CPS cases, domestic violence, anger management, and more. In therapy my clients will learn how to exercise positive coping skills, strategies and more in therapy.

I’ve been using Solution Focus Brief Therapy in my practice for the past seven years. I’ve assisted clients identify their own strengths, and past-resolutions to help them overcome their current problems/concerns. I’ve helped clients see their inner strengths, develop goals, and help clients achieve change. I strongly believe it is vital to explore past successes of the client, while identify potential roadblocks or obstacles that may impede client from reaching their goal(s). Together we can do this!

Psychoeducation

I utilize Psychoeducation in my practice to help clients learn and have a better understanding of their current problems or mental health conditions. I will help you learn more about your mental health in a space and comfortable space and explore thoughts and feelings attributed to your current situation. Psychoeducation provides my clients the opportunity to explore interpersonal learning, and through this journey foster personal growth.

Positive Psychology

I implement Positive Psychology in my practice when treating child/adults. I strongly believe it is important to have a PERMA approach: I focus on maximizing five factors essential to happiness and wellbeing: positive emotions, engagement, meaning, relationships and accomplishment
