Hi! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am based in Illinois and I identify as a Black Therapist. I have been practicing for 14 years and I provide culturally responsible behavioral health services to adults. My role is to empower you to achieve balance between your personal, mental and emotional well-being. I am ready to assist if you are challenged with sadness/depression, achieving work/life balance, needing to make a career switch or have perinatal/postpartum concerns. I am also a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and can assist with lactation matters as they impact mental health.
During the first session you can expect to discuss the presenting problem which ultimately led you to explore therapy. The is also the time for us to get to know one another and begin the process of building a rapport. In getting to know you I will ask you to provide very specific information about the specific challenges you are facing so that we can develop a plan for future sessions. This can be an overwhelming process for some. I encourage you to be as honest as possible and to share your feelings about the process in the moment. Congratulations on taking the first step!
I pride myself on offering a safe space for all who work with me. I provide culturally responsible clinical services where I operate using a decolonized lens. I am trained and experienced in providing services to the LBGTQ+ community and gender non-conforming folks. I honor and respect ones pronouns and see the beauty in all relationship structures.
Life can be challenging and a roller coaster at times. I enjoy working with adults who are seeking ways to find balance. They have the tools but need to explore ways to apply them. As a former engineer, I understand how demanding work environments can bring about stress. I am experienced in helping clients navigate through postpartum concerns as they figure out how to re-enter the world. I am a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and can address lactation/feeding concerns as they can impact mental health.
I frequently utilize CBT within sessions. Identifying negative thought patterns / schemas helps one to uncover negative self-talk and other self-defeating behaviors. This process also provides a roadmap toward finding evidence for and against negative thoughts which assists with deciphering the accuracy of one's negative thoughts. The realization that thoughts and feelings are connected to behaviors leads one to write a new, more positive narrative that contradicts the negative thought pattern / behavior.
