Hi, I’m Deborah Kirkland, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing virtual therapy for adults in Texas and Arkansas. I specialize in helping people navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and social phobia, offering a safe, supportive space to work through life’s challenges. With advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma Focused CBT/CPT, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I use evidence-based techniques to help you find relief, build resilience, and regain a sense of control. I bring 9 years of experience from a non-profit trauma center, where I worked with individuals facing some of life’s most difficult moments. I understand how overwhelming life can feel when you’re struggling—but you don’t have to face it alone. Whether you're dealing with persistent worry, the weight of past experiences, or simply feeling stuck, I’m here to provide the tools and compassionate support you need to move forward and create a life that feels more meaningful and fulfilling.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other in a comfortable, judgment-free space. I’ll ask about your background, current challenges, and what brings you to therapy. We’ll also discuss your goals and what you hope to gain from our work together. This session is an opportunity for you to share at your own pace and ask any questions you may have about the therapy process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, my greatest strengths lie in my compassionate, evidence-based approach and my ability to create a safe, supportive space for clients to explore their experiences. With 9 years of experience working in a non-profit trauma center, I bring a deep understanding of how trauma and mental health challenges affect every aspect of life. My advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma Focused CBT/CPT and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) allows me to offer practical, research-backed tools tailored to each client’s unique needs. I am skilled at helping clients feel heard and understood while empowering them to develop the resilience and coping strategies needed to navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, and social phobia. My collaborative style means I meet clients where they are, guiding them toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for them. Above all, I am committed to providing a warm, non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to be themselves and work toward lasting well-being.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am best positioned to help adults dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life changes. My clients often come to me for help managing stress, building self-acceptance, and navigating challenges like relationship issues, career changes, or feeling overwhelmed. I work with people who have experienced trauma, whether from past abuse, difficult life events, or ongoing struggles. Many are looking for practical ways to cope, improve how they handle emotions, and find a sense of control in their lives. I also support those who feel misunderstood because they were never diagnosed with autism until adulthood, helping them better understand their needs and manage challenges related to social interactions, sensory sensitivities, and communication. My goal is to empower clients to live more fulfilling, authentic lives.

My treatment methods

Trauma-Focused CBT

I specialize in trauma-focused counseling, providing a safe space to process experiences, build coping strategies, and foster healing. Using evidence-based methods, I help clients manage trauma responses, develop self-compassion, and regain a sense of control and empowerment. My approach is personalized to each client’s unique needs and pace.

EMDR

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients process and heal from trauma. EMDR involves using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to help reprocess distressing memories, allowing clients to shift from negative beliefs and emotions toward a more adaptive perspective. Through this approach, clients can reduce the emotional charge of traumatic memories, integrate them more fully, and find greater peace and emotional balance

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

In sessions, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients build psychological flexibility by focusing on accepting their thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding them. We work together to identify core values and commit to actions that align with those values, even in the face of difficult emotions or challenges. Through mindfulness and cognitive defusion techniques, clients learn to observe their thoughts without judgment and take meaningful steps toward a more fulfilling life.
