I’m Theresa Harris, Ph.d.,LPC-S, owner and clinical director of Care Connections Mental Wellness and Learning Center. I have more than 15 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, behavioral concerns, family transitions, and other life challenges. My practice provides culturally responsive, trauma-informed care using evidence-based and creative approaches to help clients feel understood, build practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session will be a welcoming, judgment-free conversation focused on helping you feel comfortable and understood. We will review confidentiality, discuss what brought you to therapy, explore relevant history and current concerns, and identify your strengths and goals. You will have opportunities to ask questions, share at your own pace, and discuss what you hope to gain from counseling. Together, we will begin developing a personalized treatment plan that reflects your needs, preferences, and vision for meaningful change.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring warmth, empathy, patience, creativity, and more than 15 years of experience helping clients navigate emotional, behavioral, relational, and life challenges. My approach stands out because I combine trauma-informed, culturally responsive care with evidence-based methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, and expressive interventions. I look beyond symptoms to understand each client’s experiences, strengths, environment, and individual needs. Clients can expect an authentic, collaborative relationship that balances compassionate support with practical strategies for meaningful and lasting change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are adults navigating significant life or career transitions and seeking greater clarity, confidence, and direction. I support young adults who feel stuck or have difficulty transitioning into independence, college students adjusting to new demands, and adults experiencing divorce, midlife changes, an empty nest, or retirement. I also work with professionals managing career advancement, leadership transitions, increased responsibilities, workplace stress, or uncertainty about their next professional chapter. A particular area of specialization is supporting practicing clinicians as they navigate career and personal responsibilities, establish healthier boundaries, restore work-life balance, and address compassion fatigue or burnout. I work best with individuals who are open to self-exploration and ready to develop practical strategies that support renewed purpose, resilience, and sustainable growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another, particularly during stressful life and career transitions. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, examine how those patterns affect daily choices, and develop more balanced and constructive perspectives. I incorporate practical tools such as thought reframing, problem-solving, coping strategies, behavioral goal-setting, and between-session practice. My use of CBT is collaborative and personalized, helping clients build skills they can apply independently to manage stress, increase confidence, and create lasting change.

Strength-Based

I use a strength-based approach to help clients recognize the resilience, abilities, values, and resources they already possess. Together, we explore past successes, identify what has helped during previous challenges, and apply those strengths to current life or career transitions. I encourage clients to view themselves as capable partners in the therapeutic process while developing practical strategies that support their goals. This approach promotes confidence, self-awareness, and a renewed sense of purpose as clients create meaningful and sustainable change.
