Melanie Bruneau
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience. I graduated from Boston College with my master's in social work. I have a lot of experience treating both children and adults. I specifically love helping anyone who has been struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression or other mood disorder.
I help adults who have been struggling with trauma (past or present) as well as adults and elders who are struggling with life transitions.
I also enjoying helping those struggling with life transitions. I also have a lot of experience working with children as I have been a school counselor as well as a teacher. I have helped many children who have had struggles in school as well as helped parents with parenting (children do not come with the much-needed instruction manual, so let's figure it out together). Whatever the issue may be, let's tackle it together. No one should have to do it alone. We all need someone to talk to at times.
First session
During our first session together, we will do some introductions and brief housekeeping (how to contact me and confidentiality). We will then move into the challenges that you are facing as well as the strengths that you bring with you. We will set some initial goals and begin to develop a plan for our therapy sessions.
Strengths
Having been a therapist for over 20 years. I have a lot of experience with different therapies, and I try to use an eclectic approach with each and every client. I find that relying on only one approach does not work well as each client is different. I am extremely compassionate, empathetic and truly believe that everyone can heal from whatever is going on in their life. With support and guidance, you will see yourself growing as a person and achieving your goals.
Ideal clients
I am passionate about helping all people who have (or are) experienced difficult times. I love working with people of all ages. I have a special love for working with children. Childhood should be a time of joy, and I want to help your child or teen reclaim that joy. I have a lot of experience treating anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. I also have helped many overcome their past traumas. In this busy world we live in, we all need someone who can listen. No one should feel alone!
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have used cognitive behavioral therapy for 20 years. It is helpful to understand how our thoughts impact our feelings. It can help to reduce anxiety, OCD and depression.
Eclectic
Over the years, I have discovered that often times the most effective form of therapy is a mixed form of therapy. People are unique and therapy needs to be unique to each and every client treated.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I have been using this form of therapy since I graduated in 2001. I focus on the client as an individual with worth and dignity. A client may be struggling with something, but that problem does not define who they are. Every human is worthwhile... there are no exceptions to this.
Trauma-Focused CBT
This very worthwhile form of therapy can help clients to heal from various types of trauma.
Trauma Informed Care
There are many different forms of trauma treatment. I am not trained in EMDR, but have had a lot of success helping clients who have faced trauma.
