Ewa Bruce

LMHC (she/her)7 years of experience

Hello everyone, I have been working in private practice settings for the last seven years. I have also worked in an inpatient unit with patients with dual diagnosis who suffered from mental health difficulties and substance abuse and have worked in a mental health clinic settings where I was a part of a team, working together with onsite psychiatrists and other therapists. I specialize in depression, anxiety and trauma history and I am devoted to working with adult clients on individual basis and applying a form of therapy that's tailored to the specific and individual needs of a client. I put a lot of emphasis on compassionate listening to clients' needs and on their individual experiences, to establish a working relationship with a client so that the clients can develop a sense of comfort, safety, a sense of being validated throughout the therapeutic process and a sense of direction and growth.

First session

Clients will identify their sense of comfort; they will be able to express their concerns and address what brought them to start therapy. Moreover, clients, in the process of information gathering, during the first session, will be able to focus on what their potential goal is, based on their needs and based on their motivation and willingness for being in a therapeutic relationship.

Strengths

Compassionate listening allows the clients to be heard and allows myself as a therapist to learn of the client's potential needs, what the clients are good at and what their strengths are. Establishing an alliance with a client is important to me as a therapist to be able work towards growth, problem solving, safety of the therapeutic environment, followed by more independent functioning. Problem solving through gradual change, strategizing, constructive planning, challenging beliefs and development of self-esteem in decision making are my strengths as a therapist.

Ideal clients

Adult clients trying to establish a work/life balance, struggling to establish a sense of identity and a sense of self-worth due to their history of trauma: abuse, neglect. Adult clients who have difficulties to develop effective coping skills, as a result of trauma bonding, low motivation for change and excessive worrying. Additionally, adult clients with trauma history, depression and anxiety, struggling with day to day responsibilities while lacking a support system.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Clients are guided and motivated to challenge their own beliefs, how they view themselves and how they view the world around. Clients are challenged, through the therapeutic process, to develop a rational rather than an emotional response to a potential stressor and develop an increased level of awareness.

EMDR

Clients are encouraged, through compassion and appreciation, to recognize what is that they do well and how what they do well has been helpful to them in order to get to the root of the presenting problem, to help clients to identify their own trauma response that continues to affect them today.
